Fitness goals

Hi everyone

I am setting a fitness goal for myself to lose 40 pounds by the end of 2010. I currently am a member at 2 gyms in Waltham/Watertown and have increased the amount I exercise, BUT I eat so terribly and have no motivation. Are any of you part of buddy systems or groups at your gyms and if so, does it work? I do workout with a friend, but she does volleyball a few nights a week so I find myself never going when she's not there. I'm a grown adult, you'd think I could go to the gym on my own!!! What works for all of you???

Re: Fitness goals

  • I have been going by myself lately.  But when I have a buddy I have way more motivation, and push myself more during the workout.  I go to the Y in Waltham if you are interested in a buddy.  Also, the spinning classes are great at the Y.  You really get to know everyone better when you take a class. GL.

  • Thanks Halley!

I looked at the Y but ended up going with BSC because my friend joined and I thought I'd work out more! I love classes and need to start going to them!

  • I try to work out in the morning if I can, that way I get it done and can't make excuses all day long about working out later.  The buddy system is a good motivator for me, a friend and I try to go to Vinyasa Power Yoga together once a week and DH and I try to workout together to both get motivated.

Also, I know a couple other nesties usually post a weekly exercise/eating check-in, so that could be helpful.  GL with your fitness goals!

  • II go first thing in the morning too.  This way, I can't talk myself out of it during the day.  Motivation is tough.  I pretty much go every morning during the week so it is just part of my day; it's not really an "option".
  • I want to lose 30lbs. I have 2 wedding in April which I am in one and I want to look great, though not just for the wedding. I almost feel like it will be a waste since we are going to be trying for #2 in July, but at least I will be healthier when we start.

  • I need to lose about 30 lbs and lower my cholesterol. So I've set some goals for myself to get back into yoga, start going to the gym, and walk more. I have a serious gym phobia that I'm trying really hard to get over. DH is going to go with me for the first couple of weeks to get my comfortable with the machines & atmosphere and then hopefully I can start going on my own. I get too embarassed to work out with a buddy (although I do like having a friend with me at yoga), but I can see how it would be helpful.
  • 23 lbs is my goal, but by September.. we'll see how that goes.  I'm currently a member at Planet Fitness, but that expires on Dec 31st, so I better get my arse in gear and re-register.  Yoga is also something I can't wait to start back up again.  I tried a new class this fall and I wasn't impressed, so I'm starting my regular class again in Jan 20th, and this year, I'll make damn sure I attend every class.  Even when the spring session starts up again!
