Re: How was your holiday?

  • Ours wasn't bad considering the snow.  It rained Wednesday and then snowed from Thursday to Saturday which messed up plans.

Thankfully, Seth and I both had taken off Christmas Eve day so we did my family Christmas earlier that day so we could be home before the heavy snowfall.  Opened presents and played games.  The parents loved Clue: The Office edition and we had fun playing that as we are all Office watchers.

Christmas Day we were supposed to do Seth's family and my extended family but we got snowed in so it was just us which I actually preferred.  We played games and watched Christmas movies.  Very relaxing and fun.

Saturday we managed to get out and go see Seth's family.  They celebrated Christmas without us the day before so it was a little weird but we played games and they opened their presents from us.  I had to go into work for a bit, too.

Sunday we had lunch with my family and dad's brother's family that was in town.  After that we didn't do much.

I definitely feel old after this Christmas.  I got baking pan and casserole dishes that I'm excited about.  We also got board games, dartboard, and folding table/chair set so I'm thrilled.  DH gave me a bird feeder and Husker stuff.  I can't wait for some snow to melt so I can hang up the feeder.

  • The holidays were chaotic for us, as always.  All of our families live over an hour away, which is not usually so bad but we both have divorced parents so we have 4 places to go.  I loved spending time with everyone, especially my Mom and Dad.  My mom lives out of state and my Dad travels for work 9 months out of the year, so I don't see either of them as much as I would like.  I also took my 4 year old niece to Disney on Ice on Sunday, which was a lot of fun.  We also told all of our families about our pregnancy, which was exciting.  Everybody is so happy and it feels good to have our secret out.

I was excited about my new pet hair eraser vacuum that I got.  I also got a lot of TV on DVD, which is my favorite.  I got some cute rainboots from my Mom and she also got me some Vera Bradley bags that I wanted (a lunch bag and a make-up case).  Hubby bought me a lot of my face creams and stuff that are a splurge and I love them.

Overall it was a great weekend and I am sad it is over!

  • Our holiday was good. DH had to work a bit on Christmas Eve. His boss told them they only had to put in at least 3 hours at the office. He worked from 6-9 then came home. We went visit my grandma (dad's mom), then went to my parents for lunch. It was good spending time with my parents, sister, and BIL. We left from there in the ate afternoon and drove an hour away to DH's mom's side. It was a very long day. DH wanted to do our gifts that night, so we did. I got him a bunch of golfing stuff and some cologne. He got me a bracelet from Jane Seymour's Open Hearts Collection.

On Christmas Day, we went to mass, then headed to my mom's side of the family for lunch. In the afternoon, we had some time to relax back at our house before we had to leave, so I napped while DH watched a movie. In the late afternoon, we went to DH's dad's side of the family. That gathering takes 3 hours to open presents. There's almost 60 people in the family (grandparents had 7 kids, those 7 married and had 3-4 of their own, and some of those are married with kids, others are now bringing BF's or GF's over). Anyway, everyone pulls one name at Thanksgiving and that's who you buy a gift for. So one person opens a gift, then gives their gift, and so on. After that's done, then they do other gifts that were bought (those that bought for the kids, grandparents, godparents, etc). We left there and came home and went to bed early because we were so tired.

Did anyone get "Our First Christmas" ornaments? We got like 6 of them. Almost everyone bought us one.

  • Ours was pretty good.

Christmas Eve:  H's remote starter was supposed to take about 2 hours to install, but it took over 5!  So, I was stuck at the mall without anymore shopping to do.  I was also 1.5 hours late for H's family Christmas (he had to work anyway).

Like Sarah, I was excited for domesticated stuff.  I asked for a blender from the person who pulled my name.  Got a pretty nice one!

Christmas:  H was off!!  We opened presents when he got home.  H made breakfast and we relaxed for a little bit.  Then I had to clean and start cooking.

Christmas Night:  We had our immediate families over for dinner.  About 18 people.  It was fun though. Ate, socialized, and opened presents.

  • Ours was really good.  I'm just sad it's over.  You work and put in so much time/effort and poof it's gone.

Christmas Eve, Brett made a ton of meatballs and we has Sweedish & Greek meatballs at my parents' house.  We'd gone to church before hand.

Christmas was fun.  I got a Coach bag and Brett got a Wii.  That stupid thing is way addictive.  We went to my parents' again that night and had dinner and opened presents.  We got lots of awesome stuff :)  The only "First Christmas" ornament we got though was one Brett had bought.

  • We didn't get any "first" ornaments.  That would have been a good gift idea for us!

  • Our Chrismas was super chaotic:

Wednesday I worked until about 3 and then we left to see my parents in Nashville.

Christmas Eve we were in Nashville and my parents had some friends over for a big country ham dinner YUM!

Christmas morning we woke up in Nashville, opened presents with my family then hit the road by 9:30 to drive 2 hours south to DH's mother's house.  We spent mid-day with MIL, S-FIL, SIL & her husband and our nephew.  We opened presents and had a great time.  That evening we drove over to DH's grandmother's house where his father's entire side of the family all does Christmas dinner together (we're talking 50+ people).  I absolutely LOVE going over there.  We finally made it home about 11:00 that night!  Even though it's hectic and crazy I wouldn't trade those memories for anything!  Especially since starting next year we aren't going to travel for Christmas (except Grandmother's at night) - it's time to start making our own family traditions.

Saturday we were at FIL's house to have Christmas with S-MIL's whole side of the family.  At the end of that night (about 10:00 when we finally left) I was exhausted and glad Christmas was over :)

  • Jquirke - Did I miss your BFP announcement?  Congratulations if I did!!!! How far along are you?
  • DH's sister works at Hallmark so we got a love ornament but it don't think it was a first Christmas ornament so we didn't get any either.

  • Ours was good, but busy, and technically not over yet! We have one more family thing this Saturday. Phew! So much going on!

We got one "our first Christmas" ornament, so that worked out quite nicely. MIL had given us one before that just said "2009," to commemorate that it was a special year for us.

  • Here is a photo of our first Christmas ornament my mom got us:

  • Thanks Amelia!  I am 11 weeks.  I am so excited but I cannot wait to get out of this first trimester!

  • Chrissy - I LOVE that ornament!  I looked everywhere for an ornament to commemorate our first married Christmas and couldn't find one that was just right but that one looks perfect.  I'd given up hope but now I'm going to have to stay on the hunt at after Christmas sales.

Jquirke - 11 weeks!  You're almost to the end of the dreadded first tri.  You'll be there before you know it.  Congratulations again!

  • Ours was good - just very busy!  If you include mine and DH's personal Christmas, we attended six Christmases!  Five on Christmas day and one on Christmas Eve.

We got some great stuff and spent time with family and friends, so we definitely can't complain.

I had my birthday in there, too (on the 28th), which was really fun.  :)
