Decorating/color advice

A few months ago I asked for help in re-doing my living room accents. I obviously haven't come to any conclusions since then. I'm very indecisive when it comes to decorating.

Picture it:

Cafe au lait walls

Loveseat and recliner in mocha

Sofa in beige

I thought about doing different plums/purples, but I can't seem to find anything in those colors. However, I like this rug I found at Target (very neutral in brown and gray).

Would it work? What color curtains? And then could I just add the purples with throw pillows?

I think it would be ok but it would not be adding any color to the room. Maybe wait until March and see what's new out there Wink

I'll try to wait as long as I can! And knowing how uncommital I am regarding decor, it probably won't be an issue.

But based on the description, sounds like it would look a little drab. I agree with waiting. Do you already have the couches? Best way to spice up the color is to buy colored throw pillows. Kohls is awesome for this.

While I like the rug, I agree that it doesnt add much in terms of color to the room. If you go with that, I would definitely go with curtains that had more color in them to match throw pillows and other accents. I tend to have a neutrals problem in my house too... lots of beige. One thing that I think helps is that if you lean toward neutrals, get lots of texture. So maybe a flannel patterned pillow, a matte satin pillow, a cable knit throw, a fluffy rug, a leather ottoman, velvet curtains, etc. Mix things up that way and you can get away with smaller doses of color and the room will still look decorated.

Thanks. I figured the rug would add too many neutrals, but it is pretty. :-/

Leigha, I already own the couches. If I had to re-do things I would have had gray walls or furniture since it's my favorite neutral. Oh well.

I can't see the rug mamie. I'd either wait or go the throw pillow route to add some color to the room.

I could do a solid rug and then just worry about the throw pillows and curtains. Curtains are where I get stuck all the time.

i think that rug is really pretty, but might be a little bland if your goal is to spice up your room with color. I'd say maybe go with a more colorful rug that incorporates a the purple you're going for. then tie it all together with the purple accent pillows.

Love it! i think that would really warm up the room!

I'd probably start with the rug and pillows and see how you like those first. You can always go with neutral/beige for the curtains if you think there is enough purple at that point.

I love the first Target rug you posted.

I'm eh about the purple. It's pretty, but it seems uber girly. Also, I tend to think of purple as a very wintery color, and one that you may get sick of quickly.

I am not help because that is basically the same colors as my living room and, we have no color in there. I think we even have the same couch. Where did you get it?

The mocha colored loveseat right behind us in that pic is Ashley Furniture I think.
