What do the acronyms mean?

Hi Everyone

Since I'm a newbie, can someone tell me if there's a cheat sheet lurking around this site to help me understand the acronyms (DH, PIP, etc....)? It's a whole new language for me!

Re: What do the acronyms mean?

  • I'm pretty much guessing too when I post. Huh? I think DH means Dear Husband (?), PIP is "picture in post". I'm trying to figure out what MUD means (on the Trouble in Paradise board. Those are so much fun to read. I think it's "made up dilemma"?) It would be nice to know too, because it seems like everyone knows right off the bat!

    Oh wow! I didn't even know there was a trouble in paradise board. I know what I'm reading this afternoon!

  • There's a Bump board glossary near the bottom of the blue bar to the left, in case you ever come across something baby-related that you don't know.  For some reason there's no official Nest glossary, though I know there's a bio out there somewhere with the info, I just don't have the link.

    Anyway, some of the more common ones:

    DH = general shorthand for (dear) husband
    DS/DD = dear son/daughter
    DD = also means dirty delete, for the deletion of a post (usually refers to a deletion because the original poster doesn't like the responses she got, but also generically to any deletion)
    HTH = hope that helps
    IMHO = in my humble opinion
    MUD = made-up drama (some people just like to mess with others)
    N + Board Initials + R (e.g. NDR, NMMR) = not related to the topic of that board, usually a National board, but often Nesties become regulars of a board and like to get the opinions of that board even if it's off-topic.
    NMR = not my style
    OP = original poster
    PP = prior poster
    PIP = picture in post
    PIB = picture in bio
    XP = cross post (a post you put on multiple boards)

    I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • A few more:

    ILs/MIL/FIL/BIL/SIL= in-laws, mother/father/brother/sister-in-law

    GL= good luck

    WWYD= what would you do (not really a nest acronym i guess)

    WDYT= what do you think

    TTC= trying to conceive

    HM= honeymoon

    IRL= in real life

    NFT= no further text

    AW= attention wh0re

  • And I will add that TheBump glossary is a godssend.. I swear, just lurking on those boards, I have to have it up to translate!
