turkey left-overs Q

Following suit with the food Q's...

We hosted Christmas dinner, and have been left with the leftover turkey.  Is there an easier way to get the meat off the bone than to sit there and pick at it incessantly?  It's starting to dry out, and I hate to let it go to waste.

Re: turkey left-overs Q

  • I don't know of any other way, unfortunately. My mom and MIL both just stand in the kitchen and pull the meat off with their bare hands. It is gross, but the only way I've ever seen it done.
  • Called my mom - not sure why I didn't do that first...

She said to boil/steam it in a big pot.  I'm in the process of pulling the meat off the bones now.  It's amazing how it's just falling off! But, still REALLY gross.  Ick!

  • I made turkey stock with ours the other day.  I was so grossed out just by carving it, I still haven't pulled all the little bones out of the stock.  I don't know why it got to me so bad when I've done it a couple times before.
  • ditto boiling it... I made some chicken stock with some leftovers I had and then when I pulled the meat off, tossed in some BBQ sauce and froze if for a later date.  It was really good.
