Gettysburg

Hi ladies!  DH and I are working on a trip for President's Day/Valentine's Day weekend and we are looking at the Wyndham in Gateway Gettysburg and were wondering what the area is like and if anyone knows anything about the hotel.  We were looking at snow tubing at Ski Liberty as well.  Any input anyone has would be great.  Thanks ladies!

Re: Gettysburg

  • The Wyndham is one of our newest hotels in Gburg, but it's also basically the furthest out from the town - Gburg is situated entirely to the west of 15S.  The Wyndham is immediately to the east of 15S.

It's not like it's difficult to get to things in town from the hotel, but it's certainly not in the midst of anything related to the town - in fact, when they built the hotel, they built it with another hotel, a movie theatre, and two restaurants... but that's about all that's there.  It is not within walking distance of any of the town's restaurants or attractions, if that is important to you.

Personally, if I were visiting the town and wanted some of the more tourist-y things, I would book a hotel in-town so that I could walk to some of the attractions and restaurants, and generally just be more "involved" in the pulse of the tourism that is offered in Gburg.  Did you consider one of the B&Bs in town, by chance?  That's really a neat way to experience Gburg, if not.  There are also some very nice hotels that are in great locations for things, if you prefer a hotel to a B&B.

As for tubing at Liberty, the Wyndham is about as far as you can get from the resort.  Liberty is actually just outside of Gburg to the west (in Carroll Valley), and from the Wyndham, I'd estimate it would be at least 25-30 minutes' drive.  I have not actually been out to the resort to do any tubing, but my DH has, and said it is a lot of fun.  It's a very pretty area and the resort is always doing a booming business during the winter, so I'm sure it would be a good time.

    HTH!

  • i've stayed at the wyndham for a friend's wedding and it's nice. my work sometimes has dinners there, too. i guess their restaurant is supposed to be pretty good. the wyndham is at the one end of 30 (right off of rt 15) and you pass restaurants and stores btw the hotel and the main part of town. definitely would need a car to get to the battlefields/historic areas.
  • The Wyndham is very nice but as Ashlee said, it's right at Route 15 and not in town or near Ski Liberty.  You could also stay at Ski Liberty if you wanted.  It's all right as well from when we looked it for our wedding, but I would probably want to stay in one of the bed and breakfasts or at the Gettysburg Hotel in the center of town if you want more of a Gettysburg feel.
