bras

I am in desperate need of some new bras and want to know where do you ladies go for yours/what brand do you go for?  I am an average size, so there is no issues there I have just been unhappy with many of the bras I have bought in the past!  TIA

Re: bras

  • When I was pregnant, I was desperate and went to Jezebel's in downtown State College.  The woman there fitted me and was very knowledgible and nice.  I noticed they had lots of cute non-maternity/nursing stuff, too, and I have yet to get back there, but I think it would be a good place to try.  They run sales occasionally, and I think they're still doing the $5 off with a donation of a gently used bra.
  • My mom bought me a g.c. to A Perfect Fit in Boalsburg for Christmas.  I don't trust what the girls say at VS when they size you.  I can't wait to find out what my "real" size is and to get a proper bra that fits.

Sorry, I guess this doesn't give you any suggestions.  Once I get sized, I'll have to let you know how it went.

Yah, I have been unhappy with my VS experiences, which is why I thought I'd ask around!  Let me know how your experience is there.

  • Ugh I hate, HATE shopping for bras. I need to find a place too that will tell me what size I really am but I don't know of any local place.

    Married 6/10/09 in Bermuda.
  • I just asked this on another board the other day and most of the Nordstrom brands were reccommended (Wacoal especially). Most of the girls said they buy them at Nordstrom Rack stores...but I don't have any of those nearby.

Some reccommended Target's brand, but I have tried their bras and they don't fit my 34Ds for crap.

Bali and Maidenform also ranked high when I asked, and you can buy both of those at Kohls/JCPenney,etc

I've tried the Target ones too at the same size with no luck...ugh. I've been getting mine at Kohls cause I get coupons for there cause I'm a cardholder but I can't get the right fits there either.

  • VS is so overpriced to me, unless they have a sale and I have a coupon I don't buy from them. Although I did just use my $10 birthday gift card they sent me and I did get two bras from them and I do like them.

I forget which company did it but a study showed that Target's O'mally brand is made as well as VS or other comparable brands and they are much more affordable. I have a few of their bras and am on the fence. One of them the underwire came out with in a few weeks but the other one is holding up really well.

I also like frederick of hollywood bras. I think their colors are pretty and they occasionally have a 2 for $40 sale.

  • I'm not familiar with malls in State College but if you have a Nordstrom near you, a lot of people on F&B recommend them for getting fitted properly.

  • I used to love VS but I had a bunch that just didn't impress me...we're talking underwire poking through the material after wearing them twice.  On a whim I decided to look at Target and I've been pretty happy with the ones I've gotten there.  I have a couple of the Gillian O'Malley ones but I just bought some new ones the other day that are by Maidenform.  I can't think of the style name but they are comfy and fit nice.  I tried one and liked it enough that I went back and bought 3 more in black, red, and pink :)
  • I have a Liz Claiborne bra that I really loved when I bought it but I've had it for less than 6 months and the underwire poked out so steer clear of any LC bras!

  • Thanks for all the advice ladies!!  I'm going shopping today (ugh...I've been dreading this) and I think I'm going to try one either Maidenform/Bali from Kohl's and one from Target and "test drive" those 2 for a couple of weeks (at least that way I can ditch the worst of my bras!).
