That's right! I'm a mommy! DH and I went out yesterday and found the newest member of our family. Pugsly here is a sweet, rotund pug/beagle (and IMO, Pomeranian). She spent the night in her crate without a complaint or problem.
I'm a little worried about her eating. She has barely touched her food. Won't really engage with her peanut butter filled kong. I know that she's still adjusting and will probably get there, but a chubby dog that won't eat concerns me. She also doesn't seem to play with toys. Any toys. At all. That could be a problem when she's home alone.
Still, we're very happy to have her. My first dog! Yay!

Re: I'm a mommy!!! PIP
I wouldn't get too concerned about the eating thing just yet. A lot of times when they're stressed from a new environment, they won't eat for a bit. Just make sure it is available and I'm sure you'll find that as she acclimates to your house and relaxes a bit, she'll come around! I also wouldn't stress about the toy thing. My dog loves them but my parents dog will chew on a nylabone every now and again but otherwise ignores everything else. In fact, squeaky toys freak her out so when my knucklehead is running around with them at the cabin, she goes into another room where it is not so noisy.
Enjoy being a puppy momma and have fun spoiling your new addition rotten!
I agree with pps. Don't worry about the eating. I think its pretty normal when in a new environment and with new people. And I like what Jkip said too. When we got our puppy, I remember reading somewhere that little stuffed animals are best to start off with.
But anyways, congrats and good luck!
Yep, we got her a plush toy as well. I'm intrigued by the puzzle toy idea... but if she doesn't even seem to "get" the concept of a kong, I don't think she'll take enough time to figure out the puzzle.
I think it'll just be a period of trial and error and adjustment. I'll keep you posted with furbaby updates!
She is adorable! Congrats!!
I'm sure she is just adjusting to the new setting, give her a few days and see how she does. And FYI, the dog we had growing up never played with any toys either and she was the sweetest happiest dog I've ever known in my life.
Congrats! I love fur babies!
If she looses a lot of weight then you can take her to a vet to check it out, otherwise she's probably just a little freaked out at the change. She'll eat when she gets comfortable with the her new house and family.
She will probably come around to the toys too. Try to play with them around her, she might decide it looks like fun and join in.
Something that might help her get used to her new family and bond with you - Sleep with a small blanket or towel then put it in her crate while you're gone. A piece of clothing that you've worn works too. She'll smell you all day and get used to your scent. It's also comforting when they're alone.
When we first got Belle she wouldn't come near anyone. She wouldn't play with toys alone or with anyone else, she wouldn't sit near anyone, and she would get up and move if someone came close to her. We let our other dog sleep on the bed with us but at first Belle didn't want to.
After the first week she started watching our other dog, Susie, playing with her toys and eventually grabbed the other end of one and played with her. I left a shirt that I had worn in her bed with her while I was at work and she eventually started sleeping on our bed at night next to me. I also picked her up whenever she would let me and put her on my lap for as long as she would stay and now she LOVES to sit with people. She's the lovinest dog you've ever seen.
She also had a food issue when we first got her. Hers was the opposite though, she kept eating way too much and making herself sick. We had to feed her and Susie seperately for a while and portion her food carefully.
Oh, and ours just sleep all day when we're gone too. They don't care about toys until we're home. She'll probably sleep if she doesn't want to play in her crate.
Congrats mommy!
She is too cute. No worries on the toy thing when we got my lil dachsund he was scared of toys especially ones that squeeked but now he won't quit squeeking them! She'll adjust she has to get used to her new home and new parents before she can have fun.
What a cutie! Congrats! In terms of the eating, I'd not worry about it for a few days. If she continues to not eat, you may want to try a different food. Our pup recently decided he does not like the dry food he has been eating for the last few years and DH and I are on a quest to find something he does like (next up, Halo, the one that Ellen DeGeneres is part owner of...sigh...I have the pickiest little guy in the world!)
Also, she may not be a toy dog. Ours doesn't really like anything, except a few stuffed animals that he only plays with when he is really excited (by "play with" I mean picking them up in his mouth and thrashing them around like he is on speed...it is cute). Sometimes he will wrestle with us with them or sit and chew them and try to tear them apart but generally he just likes to sleep and watch Golden Girls or Tori and Dean.

Congrats! No advice will be offered since everyone else has it covered.
@JKip: I'm glad we weren't the only family to call our dog's baby her baby
@Angela: I love the thrashing about as though on speed...our dog did that with her baby too.
