Hi ladies...Merry Christmas to all of you! I have a very good reason for being MIA the past week - my little boy was born on Christmas Eve! Here's the short version of the birth story, for those who may be interested, and one of my favorite pics so far take on Christmas Day. We're all getting adjusted at home so I won't be on consistently for a while but, I'm thinking of you all and will pop in when I can:
I had been scheduled for a c-section, due to my son's breech position, on January 5th and as of my last doctor appointment on 12.22 was only 1 cm dilated. The OB thought there was little chance of my going early...ha!
On Christmas Eve morning (37w3d), my husband and I were up early talking a bit before he headed out to work. When he left the room to start getting ready to leave, I started feeling some pressure and thought to myself "Get out of bed now!" I had one foot on the floor when my water broke at 5:33 am. I called out to my DH what was happening. Within minutes we were getting ready, gathering our bags and heading out the door.
I called into the OB office to alert the on-call doctor that we were coming in and arrived at the hospital at 6:30 am. Since I was pre-registered, I went directly to L&D and was set-up in the pre-op room within minutes. The nurses and doctor's were all wonderful about talking us through what was happening. About 8:15, I was taken in to the OR for my spinal (the doc was great - hardly felt it!) and minutes later my husband was sitting by my side.
At 8.36 am our beautiful son, George Elias was born weighing 7 lbs, 14 ozs and 19.5 inches long. My DH was able to get amazing photos of him being lifted out of my belly and kicking his way into the world. After he was suctioned, he immediately started wailing and showing off his well developed lungs. I was a goner the moment I set eyes on him!
We were discharged from the hospital on Monday and are doing well. He is such a good baby, breastfeeding like a champ and and generally very content. We couldn't be happeir!
Re: Had my baby! Our Christmas Eve surprise...(PIP)
Congratulations again and thanks for sharing the story. How exciting that he came early on Christmas Eve even though your doc thought he would happily wait until January.
I hope you're loving being a Mom; it sounds like George is doing well so you must be off to a great start!!
That's actually a crazy/sad story. I was scheduled to work through Christmas Eve at 1:00 pm when our offices closed for the holiday but, on Wed, 12/23 I got a call around lunch time that my grandmotehr had passed away. I called HR and told them that I needed to take emergency leave for the rest of the day and for 12/24 due to the loss. They were wonderful told me to go, with their condolances and that they would not charge me for the time but, I would still get paid (didn't care about this at all but, it shows the kindness).
When I left work, I was only thinking about how I would travel in my huge condition to be there with my family and was just trying to keep myself together so as not to stress the baby. Never thinking that just over 12 hours later my water would break!
No, c-section was not my original plan but, I had know for a couple of weeks that I didn't have a choice since he was breech and not budging from his comfy spot!
I am absolutely enjoying being a mom. Exactly one week in and I am loving every minute!!!
