Can't Stop Itching :(

In the past I've had some pretty bad reactions to perfumes.  No idea why some and not others, but there's obviously an ingredient in some that I'm averse to.  I've been wanting Marc Jacobs "Daisy" perfume for a long time so I bought it for myself for Christmas.  I was so excited to wear on Christmas Day!  And then.....I woke up Sunday morning itching with red splotches everywhere I'd put the cream that came in the gift set (legs, arms, chest, and stomach).  I thought it would subside, but no luck.....I'm itching like mad!!!

My dermatologist is next door to my gym so I stopped in there this morning before my workout to show them the issue and see if I could get in.  They sent me away with 8 little bottles of anti-itch eucerin and told me to come back tomorrow at 9:00.

Itching aside, I'm heartbroken that I can't wear my new perfume!  Crying  Anyone know an ingredient in perfumes that's likely to cause this?!?

Re: Can't Stop Itching :(

  • Awww =( I know how you feel because I have super sensitive skin (to the point where we have to use "free" fabric softener with no chemicals, scents, etc) and perfumes are always out of the question for me. I have no idea what causes the rash either, so i just avoid all scented sprays and lotions, but when I used to wear perfume sometimes, I was able to work around the rash by spraying it lightly over the outer layer of my hair instead (I have really long hair too) so I can wear the scent without having it touch my skin. Hope your rash goes away soon and hope you feel better soon!

  • oh that sucks! i had hives attach recently so i know how you feel about feeling itchy all over!! hope you feel better.
  • I have this reaction to some perfumes, although usually it's the cheap ones - I think what I'm allergic to is the higher alcohol content that the more inexpensive perfumes have. I wouldn't have thought this would be an issue with the one you bought though?
  • Oh that's such a bummer 'cause I LOVE that perfume!!!  I hope you feel better soon and that the rash subsides quickly...  :(
  • Thanks guys....still itching.  :(  On the flip side, I now think it may be the new soap I tried.  Because of this itching problem, Dove was the only soap I could use without itching.  Well....Dove made a winter care soap and thouguht we'd try it.  When I opened it I thought the fragrance was WAY too strong but thought it'd be okay.  I think this may be the culprit since I've developed a new rash spot on my stomach and I haven't used the perfume since Saturday.  I'm going back to my standard Dove soap and see what happens (and got a prescription for some strong itch cream!).  Fingers are crossed!!!
  • When I had hives a few weeks ago, Eucerin Anti-Itch Treatment lotion was a lifesaver for me.  It didn't make the itching go away (nothing did), but it did seem to calm it down a bit and cool it off.  If you're still itching, you should give it a shot!
