Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in?

  • (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO?

35 weeks and 2 days pregnant.  Had my first internal exam yesterday (I go every week from now and have them every week)...it hurt!  I am 1 cm dialated and the baby is measuring 6 lbs. exactly.

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Feeling BIG!  Libby has dropped and turned anterior (facing my back). She's been head down since week 28.  I feel her feet just above my belly button now, no longer up under my ribs.

I have a new stretching routine before bed and I have been sleeping much better.  But my acid reflux is still a killer and I just feel cumbersome these days...I cannot really bend over anymore and crouching/squatting isn't much easier.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Had my NST today and will have my 36 week appt and next NST next Thursday....same day that the ladies at work are throwing me a little shower.

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby?  Mamas, what's next on your list for LO?

We're pretty set.  We plan to install the car seat this weekend.  Still need to find out where we get it inspected.  There are some final decorative touches I want to make in the nursery, but it's pretty much ready to go too.  We need to rearrange some furniture in our room to accommodate setting the co-sleeper up next to my side of the bed, but I am not sure if we'll do it before Libby comes or not because I plan to labor as long as possible at home and I want easy access to my side of the bed.

I have one more load of baby laundry to do (new clothing we've received as gifts and I want to wash the fabric cover on her swing).

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans?

Home alone with the furbabies.  Joseph is working and my mom is in CA.  I'll probably just veg out on the couch and watch a movie or something.

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?

Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use?

I plan to breastfeed and then pump once I get ready to go back to work.  If Libby cannot latch or something then the plan is to exclusively pump.  We shall see.  I'd prefer not to use formula if at all possible...I am cheap like that!  LOL!  I hope to get the Medela FreeStyle Pump...I haven't decided yet if I'll get it soon or wait and rent a pump and then buy one of my own.

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

"Your life will never be the same."  Really?  I had no idea *insert sarcastic eye roll here*

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

Trust your instincts.  Also, plan on doing nothing but snuggling/bonding and feeding your baby for the first month she's here.

    (9) For TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

    (10) For mommies: How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

  • (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO? 22 weeks and 4 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Since I've had a nice week long vacation from work, I'm feeling great lol! Lots of naps.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Ugh. To be honest, I don't even know...I have two doctors and so many freaking appointments these days (and it's just getting worse!). I'd be totally lost if I didn't write stuff on my calendar. I THINK it's Jan 19 at the high risk clinic, and they always do a quick ultrasound at the same time just to check to make sure the babies are still growing at the same rate, etc.

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby? The nursery! We need to go buy the cribs - we already have the rest of the furniture already. We also need to get the room painted and decorated.

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans? Ummm...sleeping? We already had ours last night. Stick out tongue

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?
Hoping to BF and pump for 6 months or so. After that, we'll see...honestly, it depends on when my seasonal allergies (which are pretty extreme and last for months) start, because there is just no way I can cope with caring for two babies on limited sleep PLUS deal with the allergies, so I'll be going on medication when I need to, which means no more BFing. It's disappointing, but after dealing with it this year, I can honestly say that there is simply no way I'd be able to cope otherwise.

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received? All of the people who tell me that since I'm not in the first trimester anymore, I can drink now. This seems to be a very popular opinion in Australia, and it's just bizarre to me. Yes, all the organs have developed, but what about the babies' brains??? Alcohol doesn't pass well through amniotic fluid, so when you drink you basically end up basting your baby in booze - they're swimming in the stuff even after your alcohol level is back down to zero. I know drinking is part of the culture here, but for god's sake, stop trying to talk me into it!

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received? "Nothing will go according to plan." Amen to THAT! Normally I'm a VERY organized, planning type of person, and expecting twins has changed that dramatically. I can't plan anything. I can't plan on a vaginal birth because I have a 50% chance of needing a C-section. My odds of getting GD or hypertension are massively higher, so I can't assume I'll be healthy for the entire pregnancy. Hell, I can't even plan on BFing until it actually happens, because there's a chance I may only have enough milk supply for one baby (it's often not a problem, but it DOES happen).

At first it stressed me out, but oddly, all of this has actually made me feel very calm and placid now. I have a very strong "what will be, will be" attitude these days, at least about this pregnancy. Need a C-section? No problem. If I get hypertension? Well, it wasn't totally unexpected, especially since I've always had mildly high blood pressure anyway. I feel very strangely relaxed and accepting about not knowing what will happen!

  • (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO? 10 weeks 4 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? My nausea has increased a little in the last week.  It's mostly in the evenings.  I have had a few moments where I couldn't keep food down, but luckily, that's only about once every other day.  I eat enough in general, but worry that I'm not getting enough protein, since I'm having a pretty big meat aversion.  I'm trying to eat more beans, hummus, and peanut butter, but they don't usually sound very good to me, either.  I'm mostly eating pasta, bread, raw veggies, and fruit.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? I have a doctor appointment on Monday, then our genetic ultrasound on Friday the 15th, which I'm already starting to get pretty nervous about.

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby? I just want to start shopping in general!!!  We did (very casually) go look at strollers the other day, and we found one that I think we both agree on.  I've been doing a lot of window shopping online for furniture since I've been off of work the past two weeks.  I'm dying to order already!  :)

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans? Dan works until 11:00, so he should just make it home before midnight.....that is, IF I can stay awake that long!  That hasn't happened since I've become KU!  SO, basically, my plans involve a movie, pasta, and probably falling asleep on the couch.

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?
I'd like to BF, then pump when I go back to work.  That's the plan so far, though I don't have any more details worked out at all!  I do worry about BFing, to be honest.  I have pretty large, very sensitive breasts as it is, and they have been quite painful so far during the pregnancy.  I hope I can manage without it being too painful.

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received?  "If you're feel sick, try saltine crackers."  Hey, thanks!  I've never heard that before!!!

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received? "Take it easy.....if you're feeling tired, take a nap."  I don't usually let myself relax and rest in the afternoon, but I need to nowadays, so it's nice that I'm "allowed" to now.

  • (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO? 9 months on January 4th!

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  Wai is in this copycat stage where she copies movement (waving, clapping, hands up) and sounds like bah-bah, mama, dada, nana. Lots of fun. She's also just starting to find her balance standing up. She'll stand steadily for a few seconds every once in a while.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 9 month check up is next week. Looking forward to finding out how much she's grown. NOT looking forward to another vaccination though....poor baby.

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby?  Mamas, what's next on your list for LO? Continuing the baby proofing. She finds everything she's not supposed to have.

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans? Hanging out at home tonight. It's raining anyway. Tomorrow is my BIL's rehearsal lunch. The wedding is on Saturday.

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?

Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use? I bf and pump if I have to be away for an extended period of time. I'm never able to pump all that much unless it's in the morning and I haven't nursed for some time. I have the Medela Pump in Style Advance.

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received? Can't think of any. I usually just ignore the silly advice and don't give it another thought!

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received? You are the mom and know what's best for YOUR baby. Don't listen to people who tell you that what they did is what you should do too. Some advice is worth taking seriously and other advice can be thrown out the door!

    (10) For mommies: How many hours of sleep do you get a night? Probably 7 hours. DD usually wakes up once during the night. She starts her night in her crib and ends up in bed with us around 4-5am. We don't mind though.

  • (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    27 weeks, 3 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Feeling larger and getting winded more easily.  We're headed to Kauai next week for our babymoon and I hope I can still manage the activities we had planned.

Also, the baby is kicking me in my crotch a lot, and it kind of trips me out.  It tickles in a weird way and I get crazy ideas about it starting to come out!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

GD test on Tuesday.  I feel like I haven't been to the doctor in forever... definitely have grown a lot since then!

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby?  Mamas, what's next on your list for LO?

We have 3 months to go, and it feels like we haven't done much yet.  We only started looking at baby name books and started talking about big things like strollers and stuff today.  We also need to get to work on the baby's room, although we're keeping it simple and just painting the walls and some hand-me-down furniture.  But we did just sign up for a preparation for labor/delivery class, so I'm glad I at least have that scheduled.

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans?

Off to our friends' house for food, friends and fireworks.  But we're coming home early to chill and spend QT with our doggie.  :)

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?

Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use?

I plan to breastfeed and introduce the bottle early on so that other family members can help with feedings and babysit when necessary.  I got the Medela FreeStyle Pump when Christine announced the BrU sale... great value.

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

I sometimes get annoyed when people feel the need to add their personal two cents about the safety or appropriateness of certain things/behaviors/child-rearing-philosophies that you've adopted.  It's already hard enough making certain choices (e.g., H1N1 vaccine or not?), so I don't need all the extra input after I've already researched it and committed to something.

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

That women have been having and raising babies for eons -- and, generally, they've done just fine (with a lot less than we have today, too!).  Sometimes it's not necessary to overthink everything, or read 18,000 books from 18,000 experts, or to have all the fanciest new stuff to get ready for your baby.  DH and I also think back to some of the impoverished areas we've traveled to and thought how resilient women and babies can be and how well-taken care of we already are, without all the added extras.  That helps keep us sane.

Yes I totally agree. It's so easy to get overwhelmed by everything, especially by all the extra stuff you can buy. Now that we've had to buy multiples of things, I sometimes get a little disappointed...like that we have to go with the super plain cribs instead of the prettier one because we just can't afford two of the pretty ones, that kind of thing. But ultimately, as long as it's safe, it really doesn't matter. It's not like the babies will care, and we'll still have more than a lot of parents and a lot of babies worldwide!

  • (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    I'm 33 weeks, 6 days pregnant

Maya is 2 years, 4 months (I thought I'd include her on this as she IS my first LO lol).

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

I've had a summer cold for the last two weeks (finally stopped today, I think) and it's been really hot here in Melbourne which has contributed to my 'i'm drawing breath but it doesn't seem to be reaching my lungs' problem. Not feeling like your lungs are getting much oxygen sucks a little ;)

Today, I was napping with my daughter and, all of a sudden, a small area on my lower back flares up with the most intense cramps. So intense and painful it took my breath away and made me sit up on my knees and wonder if I was going into prem labour. It stopped after about 10 mins but reminded me of how painful labour is lol. I had 27 hours of labour with no pain relief with Maya, so I didn't need the reminder THAT much haha.

Other than that, feeling lumbersome big but enjoying feeling the Nugget move around. The movements are always my favourite part of pregnancy.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

I'm seeing the midwife at my hopsital either this Wednesday or next (have to check app book).

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby?  Mamas, what's next on your list for LO?

Today, Josh and I spent the whole day going through ALL of Maya's clothes. Oh man, what a job! I went through and pulled out clothes sitting in her drawers at the moment that are now too small and we went through the bags and bags of clothes we had already put away.

As we didn't catalogue them when we initially put them away, we spent the day grouping clothes according to size, folding them and putting them into vacumn-sealed bags (those space-saver bags you can suck all the air out of when packing into suitcases). So, we have 5 jumbo suitcases of baby clothes sitting in our storage right now.

Tomorrow is going to be spent washing newborn clothes, folding etc. Most of them are gender nuetral but some are girl clothes. We figure, if we have a girl then it's already done and if we have a boy, we can just take out the girly clothes and put away.

We also have about 5 garbage bags of clothes for donation. I swear I have no idea how we got SO many clothes but a lot of the clothes were donated to us from people we knew and the bad thing is, Maya probably only wore 20% of them all.

Other than that, I need to pack hospital bags (already started, not finished), Maya's bag (she will be babysat by my sister when I go into labour). We also need to buy a new breastpump, set up the bassinette again (after we wash the fabric) and restock on baby items such as shampoo/body wash, etc.

I'm tired just thinking of all that's left to do....

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans?

It was last night for us here in the Southern Hemisphere and I basically just worked on editing wedding photos of the two weddings I shot recently. Thrilling, I know lol!

We also had a massive electrical thunderstorm last night so I was glad to be safely and dryly tucked away at home.

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?

Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use?

Plan to breastfeed again. I aim to pump more this time around too, so I can freeze a good amount of milk and have Josh do a good share of feeds. He didn't really get to with Maya and we both wish he did so this time around he is looking forward to having that snuggle/bonding/feeding time with this babeh.

We had the Medela Swing breastpump but it's broken so we need to buy another one.

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

Nothing really, as I'm a second-time arounder but I'm definitely tired of being asked "Are you sure there's only ONE in there" or some other variation on the 'twin' question. I get this at least twice a day, for the past 6 mths. It always comes after the "When are you due?" question or "You look like you're gonna go any day now..." statement.

I thought if making a t-shirt that says "YES, there's only ONE in here" but, with only 6 weeks to go at best, I'm not gonna worry about it now lol.

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

Oh, I've had a few good ones that have been given to me, usually I am reminded of them on a regular basis but it's1:30am here and my brain has gone to bed earlier than my body has. Only one I can think of right now is:

Babies/kids are more resilient than we give them credit for.

    (9) For TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

    (10) For mommies: How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

Since I've stopped breastfeeding Maya and she's graduated to a big girl bed (4 mths ago) she doesn't wake at all during the night (she used to wake around 2am because she wanted out of her crib and into our bed, getting a bonus comfort feed at the same time lol). So, I'd say 8 hours and yippee-yi-yay but I've had to stay up late most nights editing photos and sorting other business stuff out so I've been getting abour 5 hours each night.

  • (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO? 11 weeks 2 days

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  feeling fine.  Dr said I'm getting hypoglycemic (sp?) headaches and to eat every 2-3 hours.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? January 26, schedule ultrasound at that time

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby?  Mamas, what's next on your list for LO? register with the hosital and talk to my work benefits.

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans? I went to bed at 8pm.

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?

Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use? breastfeeding

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received? nothing yet, I know it's coming though...

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

enjoy it, PG only lasts 9 months.

  • (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO?

    34w1d

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Tired and uncomfortable. Nothing really new, except I'm apparently huge. I got my first "you look like you're about to pop" comment last night. Um, yeah, thanks. Oh, and I guess I'm having tons of BH and this child refuses to stay head down. It's starting to worry me a bit.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

Next week - my first internal & GBS culture, I assume. No more ultrasounds scheduled but if she isn't head down soon, I bet I'll have at least one to check on that.

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby?  Mamas, what's next on your list for LO?

Install carseat. We have an appt at AAA to get it checked so we need to get on it.  Also, our glider/recliner came in so we need to pick it up. So excited about it! And we need to finish decorating the nursery. I also read that you should have your hospital bag packed by 35 weeks so I guess I better get on that!

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans?

We got free tickets to see Maroon 5 so that's where we rang in the New Year.  Pretty cool.  It was funny, too - Jason Segel opened for them.  You know the guy from Forgetting Sarah Marshall?  He sang that song from the movie and a few other weird, random songs he wrote.

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?

Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use?

Planning to BF and pump so that B can help with feedings.  And if I go back to work, I'll have a stash frozen.  I got the Medela PISA.

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

Same as Lori - "Your life is going to totally change." DUH.

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

We actually haven't gotten a lot of unsolicited advice but I love when people say that having a kid is the best thing you'll ever do.  It's especially awesome when it comes from the most unexpected people - like guys who are totally goofy and who you would not expect to get all mushy, gushy with that stuff.

  • (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO?   14.5 months

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  SP has been experiencing all sorts of fun things while we are on Oahu for the holidays.  Lots of family and beach time, he's having a blast.

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby?  Mamas, what's next on your list for LO? We have a big family outing to Disneyland at the end of January, people flying in from all over so we're really excited.

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans? We did our usual, hosted a little get-together at my FIL's house.  BBQ and watching fireworks.  SP went to bed and slept through the night even with LOUD pops and the car alarm next door going off on a regular basis.

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?

Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use? I breastfed for 6 months, used the Medela double pump (it was awesome).  Started weening at month 6 with breastmilk & formula.  I originally wanted organic formula so we used Earth's Best but SP all of sudden refused it...when I called the pediatrician for a recommendation the nurse told me that organic formula often constipates babies - they recommended Good Start.  So I researched all the different kinds of Good Start and settled on the regular old plain variety (no DHA...Good Start is one of the only formulas that gives you the option to NOT buy formula w/DHA), I really only found it at diapers.com.

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received? To just go with the flow and trust my instincts.  I really tried to read every book known to man because I wanted to be prepared but it really doesn't matter when you get the baby home, the baby will dictate how things will go :)

    (9) For TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

    (10) For mommies: How many hours of sleep do you get a night?  We get a full nights sleep, SP sleeps from 8pm to 7am.  It was like magic when we switched to formula, pretty much slept through the night as soon as we switched around 7 months.

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers...link to your chart!

I still don't know how to PIP so here is a link to a cute photo of SP from yesterday.

  • Any additions to these lists?  Post updated due dates or gender reports here:  My LO (Billy) was born 11/9/09 - guess I missed that before!

    (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO?
He is 7wks, 3 days old

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?

Not too bad - going to get an u/s for some pain I have on my left side by my ovaries - Dr thinks it might be a cyst.  LO seems to be doing well... only really cries when he's hungry or has gas pains.  He started laughing in his sleep too - it's so funny!  He hasn't laughed when he's awake yet!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Had my OB 6wk checkup - all cleared!  LO doesn't go until his 2 month appt in a couple weeks to get his first shots.  Not looking forward to that!

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby?  Mamas, what's next on your list for LO?  I bought a flannel crib sheet, hoping that keeps the crib  warmer.  His room is so cold.  Getting a co-sleeper to help transition him from sleeping on me to sleeping full time in the crib.

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans?  just ordering pizza and watching tv with the LO!

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?
Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?
If you formula feed what brand/type do you use?

I tried to BF for a week, but he didn't latch.  Also pumped - just used the one from the hospital to rent after we left.  But since I only used it for a wk, I didn't buy one.  Now we're exclusively on formula - similac advanced early shield

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received?
sleep when the baby does - it's SO hard to that.

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received?
trust your instincts & never give up a chance to sleep!  yes, most annoying and most helpful at the same time.

    (10) For mommies: How many hours of sleep do you get a night? a night?  hahaha...  but i nap during the day when I can.  he'll usually sleep 2.5-3 hours between feedings at night.  on a good night he'll sleep 4+ and I'm ecstatic!

  • (1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO? week 33 on tuesday

    (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  feeling good!

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? on the appt. every 2 week schedule still - go back the week after next.

    (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby?  Mamas, what's next on your list for LO? I guess installing the car seat in a few weeks.  Birth class (hope we are able to finish the series, we are cutting it close b/c she didn't offer one that starts in Dec. b/c of the holidays).

    (5) New Year's/NYE plans? we had a quiet night at home.

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?

Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use? BF at least a year - I will probably try to continue after that too for a while.  Will get a pump - probably the PIS b/c I can just have them bring it to me in the hospital room from the onsite store (insurance covers it) not sure what other ones they have available.

if the baby goes to daycare at my work I can breastfeed pretty often but will still pump for back up.

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received? I think a few annoying ppl are actually hoping we give up on cloth diapers.

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received? my family is all really supportive and just always keeps telling me everything will work out, go with our instincts.

this child refuses to stay head down. It's starting to worry me a bit.

They keep telling me the baby is head down by touch, but I still get nervous it will up and decide to flip (or that they are possibly wrong)

have you tried yoga poses?  My instructor really recommends the down dog (down "puppy" if the full dog pose is too much - basically the down dog but from your knees), and also doing some cat/cows while on your hands and knees.

some of the women in the class that are really working on getting their babies head down do some really powerful inversion excersises on stairs and stuff.

the website spinningbabies.com has some good tips.

Mmmm. Been there. It's worse with twins, trust me. It's actually very frustrating because people keep just laughing smugly and saying, "Yeah - we'll see about THAT after a week or two!" Jeez people, I know it's not going to be the easiest thing in the world, but give me a chance, OK? It can't be the end of the world, because we managed to use cloth for thousands of years before disposables were invented...

  • 1)  What week are you in/how old is your LO?
Alexa is almost 4 months! (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Feeling tired! Family has been in town for 3 weeks and counting...
Big Milestone - Alexa just ROLLED OVER! And she also LAUGHED out loud! Both on New Year's Day... What a way to start off 2010! (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Alexa's 4 month appointment is Jan. 11th! More shots coming... (4) Mamas, what's next on your list for LO?

We start Itsy Bitsy Yoga soon... And daycare as well! (5) New Year's/NYE plans?

We watched the ball drop on TV and toasted champagne at midnight with my sister, her husband and my parents. Alexa was in bed by 10pm. (6) Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use?
I breast feed, exclusively. I pump, using the Medela Feestyle. Love it! (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

Not sure. (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

Baby Whisperer E.A.S.Y. method. Tip from a friend to buy an Oball!  (10) For mommies: How many hours of sleep do you get a night?
About 8 or so... Go to bed around midnight, get up with Alexa at 4/5ish, then again at 7/8ish. At 7/8ish if I don't have to be anywhere, I take her to bed with me to nurse and we sleep in until 9/10ish.

I don't let it bother me too much - the people that have said stuff like that are not really people i would welcome parenting advice from anyways. (Random girls at a baby shower I went to recently) oh and my mother in law thinks it *might work but I should buy a 2nd washer/dryer. Mmmhmmm. It will be interesting to see how she handles them when she comes to visit and "help" after the baby is born. When she comes out to visit now she makes us stop at target for paper towels bc we don't use them and she can't live without them - this could be similar.

I checked out that website and have been doing some of the poses.  Hopefully it'll work, but so far she just seems to keep doing somersaults and never stays in one position for very long.  She is so freakin' active that even if she goes head down, she probably won't stay that way until she runs out of room and can't move anymore!

I think the key here is to tell the nurses at the hospital that you WILL breastfeed. People were quick to tell me since Bella was born 5 weeks early that "she won't latch and she'll have trouble nursing". I was like "Well it's not an option, she has to nurse, there's no bottles or formula in our house and I don't want her to starve so she has to breastfeed" (insert super sassy smile here)

I think once they realized that it wasn't a joke for me they gave me much more help and support. I also made it clear that there would be absolutely no paci's or leaving my room. I wanted her there with me 100% of the time. I think the best thing you can do is to room in and get to know your baby those first few days. Plan on doing NOTHING but nursing and loving your baby. I was her paci but now she's a perfect nurser!

Did you bf Maya while you were pregnant with this one? I'm interested in how that will work since DH and I want to TTC when Bella is 10 months old or so. BUT I don't want it to interfere with her getting 1 full year of breastmilk so I wonder if I should wait until she's at least 1 to TTC.... we keep going back and forth...

Heh, when SIL stayed with us the year before last, she kept whining about how we didn't have a toaster (we don't really eat toast!) until Ben rolled his eyes and went out and bought one. And then she used it once. People are so weird sometimes!

  • )  What week are you in/how old is your LO? Bella's 5 months and 1 week. Big girl! (2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?  She's giggling outloud like the there's no tomorrow. It's SO rewarding and much more fun to have her responding her environment.  (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Her 6 month appt in late January. I still haven't scheduled it yet. More shots- boo! (4) What's next on your list to get ready for baby?  Mamas, what's next on your list for LO? She's really starting to enjoy sitting in the high chair (we scored a $150 high chair for $75 on CL) while we eat so I want to get her one of those suction toys for the top of the highchair so she can more entertained while we eat. Now she just interacts with us then gets bored after about 15 mins . (5) New Year's/NYE plans? I worked overnight all night, it sucked. New Years Day we snuggled up in bed together. (There's more in my blog) but it was a fabulous way to start the new Year.  (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use? I exclusively bf when I'm with her. There's no reason to give her a bottle if I'm right there! If I'm away she gets pumped breastmilk (we have a GIANT freezer stash) in a playtex bottle with a latex nipple. She was a picky girl when it came to bottles and nipples. She'll also only take it if she's propped on a pillow or in the bouncy. She REFUSES it if you try to snuggle her, or so DH says.

When I pump I only get about 3 1/2 oz each time so I have to pump more than she eats to keep up with her but I want to be sure my body knows to keep producing the right amt of milk. I know that she pulls more milk than the pump but it's important to me to replace what she eats (or more) each day so we can always have enough milk. :)  (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received? "Your spoiling her by carrying her in the sling and sleeping with her"... really? Shut up, she's my baby and I can do what I want!! She's happy, healthy and growing like a weed.
     (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received? Love her and interact as much as you can. They grow SO fast!
     (9) For TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing? (10) For mommies: How many hours of sleep do you get a night?   She usually goes down around 8:30 then gets up to eat around 2, 5 and is up for the day around 7 with her first nap around 9 or 10

    (3) Next appointment date?  Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?

went to TN so she could meet her great grandma - she was actually awake at midnight w/me b/c she was up nursing.

    (6) If you're PG, what's your plan when it comes to feeding baby?

Mamas, If you breastfeed do you also pump?  If so, what pump do you use?  If you formula feed what brand/type do you use?

i EBF but also pump. i have the medela PISA and so far i've been really happy with it. not pumping a lot right now due to over supply issues and thrush but in the future i plan to pump so we can have a freezer stash for when i go back to work

    (7) Most annoying advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

"take it all in right now b/c it all goes by so fast" - as if I didn't already know that!

    (8) Best advice regarding PG or baby you've received?

even when the going gets tough, stick with the BF'ing for at least 6 wks before making a decision about whether or not to continue

    (9) For TTCers:  Which cycle are you on?  Where in the cycle are you?  What, if anything, are you doing to have success TTCing?

    (10) For mommies: How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

uninterrupted sleep? 5-6 hrs for the most part....I'll get up and nurse her, change her diaper, etc and put her back to sleep and get another 3-4 hr stretch from her after that though

BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers...link to your chart!
