diaper cake instructions

Does anyone have instructions for a diaper cake?  I volunteered to make one for a shower (it is in a few weeks ekk!!)

Re: diaper cake instructions

  • These instructions are pretty close to what we did to make the cake below.

    http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-A-Boutique-Style-Diaper-Cake/

We didn't use the cake pans but looking back it would have made it easier.  We also used a bottle of wine in the center as an anchor and as nice gift to celebrate with after baby's birth.  Some people use baby products like lotion but the wine bottle is a more uniform shape.

Some people like to roll the diapers, use rubbers bands to keep them rolled and then create the cakes that way.  I think we tried that but liked the fan look better . . plus it saves you from rolling 100 diapers.

Pampers swaddlers are the plain white diapers (there is a design at the waist on one side but that will be the side you face in) you'll want to use to get a white cake.

We decorated with things from the scrap booking section at the craft store.

Let me know if you need any help!

  • Duh, cake pans!  Why didn't we think of that?!

I don't think we actually even tried to roll the diapers, Jen...even though we bought that whole bag of rubberbands, lol.  I think you suggested fanning them and we just went right for it.  It is easier, less time consuming and makes a prettier cake I think.  I agree about using the wine bottle - it's an extra little gift for the parents-to-be and really makes for a good base/anchor since it's a taller, more uniform size.  In the instructions Jen posted, it mentions using a rubberband around each layer once you get the diapers fanned out...I'm not quite sure I'd attempt this unless you had a pretty big rubber band.  We just used a thin ribbon to tighten the layer, then added the more decorative ribbon to hide it.  It will take more than one set of hands tho :)  I think for both Jen's and Christina's diaper cake we used one pack of size 1 diapers (which was used on the bottom layer) and one pack of newborn which made up the top two tiers.  They're pretty easy and fun to make!  Good luck :)

  • Here's Jen's pretty cake, gotta show it off!

  • Aww, I loved our diaper cakes.  Fun to give and receive!  I waited to take ours apart as long as I could!

Hope your cake turned out well, Denise!
