What is the "friend etiquette" on this one?
We hosted a NYE party and one of our friend's car got hit on the street in front of our house. It was a hit&run. It was not one of our other guests. It was most likely a neighbor across the street or a random person.
The damage is enough to make an insurance claim about - the bumper is cracked and chunks are missing.
Their deductible is $500.
Do DH and I have to offer to pay some or part of it?
If we had the cash - I wouldn't mind - but it is really expected of us to offer to pay? The car was on the street - not on our property.

I would say no, because I don't see how on earth you could be responsible for this.
OK...
They didn't ask for money...I just feel bad about it.

Sucks for your friend, but I agree with Karrey on this one. If anything, they could file a claim against your homeowners' insurance, but since it didn't happen on your property, it's unlikely that the damage would be covered.
Wow... Morally, that's a tough one.
I would say no, but I would prob send them something... I guess it depends on your financial means. Flowers,go out to dinner... how close you are, but no, not obligated. Just bad circumstances.
Ditto. It really sucks that it happened, but you're not responsible at all.

Thanks for the input.
We don't really have the cash to help them out right now - but we'll definitely do a dinner for them.
