Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. As a result of these updates, members of the Nest Community will need to change their password in order to continue participating in the community. Is it that hard to understand?
DH has a good friend _L_ he is dating _J_ - she is NOT nice. We don't like her and she makes it her mission in life to start drama. Well at my baby shower a few months back, while I was opening _J_'s gift [it was one of those situations where if I didn't invite her it would be WWIIII] the card read from Zia _J_ which is aunt in Italian.
I already had this discussion, actually all our friends did and we believe that keeping to the language that the child is used to. We're all adults, it's not a big deal. To my GF's son I'm Zia Lisa, he then understands. Clearly as DH and I are Portuguese our daughter will follow "our way".
So at the B.shower I said while reading the card, "no...remember it's Tia _J_" She then yells out...."Hunny I'm Italian...pppffftttt....It's Zia". So...she just commented on a FB pic of mine where I thanked Tia _J_ for a gift....with the same BS and I tried to be nice yet with a hint of b!tch:

Is it really that hard to understand? I wanted to add "so it's either Tia _J_ or nothing, your choice" but thought I'll save that one for later! LOL

ME: Mia will have Tia's and Tio's -portuguese for aunt's & uncle's- I'm not going add in another language, to not confuse her. I think it's about what's easier for the child, no? :-)

Yeah, this. But then I'm not big on the aunt/uncle honorific. I'm not sure Andrew will be using it for his actual aunts and uncles ? I don't for mine ? let alone our friends.
Mia won't be able to talk for a while - hopefully this girl will be out of the picture by the time she actually understands what the terms mean. I agree it's not worth stressing over.
On a more interesting note - do you realize that if/when Mia grows up and becomes an aunt herself she will have the oh-so-fun rhyming name of Tia Mia (or maybe even Zia Mia if she ends up with Italian inlaws!)

All of the above. our little guy won't be calling anyone aunt/uncle except for his actual aunts/uncles.
Thought I'd put my two cents in. My goddaughter has both a spanish side and an italian side. The Spanish side is called by the spanish names (tia, abuelo, etc.) the italian is called by the italian. She isn't confused. She is completely trilingual.
