I want to buy a stroller that is suitable for regular use as well as for jogging. It would mostly be on paved sidewalks and, possibly, grassy/dirt paths (no real off-roading).
I was looking at the Baby Jogger City Classic (the City mini didn't get very good reviews as a jogger). It's also available onBrU for $219 with free shipping (list is $399), which seems like a good value. Does anyone know if this model would actually work as a jogger?
Re: BR: Jogging Strollers
I don't know about the one you're looking at, but we got one from Schwinn second hand for $30. They retail in the $200-250 range brand new, so you might check them out.
I think ours is awesome! It has three wheels...tires actually...that you put air in, just like a bike. And it has a hand break like a bike. Best of all, it's tall enough for my DH and clears his long stride. It'll be perfect for jogging but also just for strolling about our neighborhood, etc. since we don't have sidewalks and the pavement is very uneven with tree branches, etc. That said, we also have a Graco Snap 'n' Go for out about, shopping, etc. and when she outgrows it we plan to go with a lightweight, umbrella-style Keekaroo Karoo (which we hope will be easy to travel with).
According to Schwinn's website, there are two types of jogger strollers...fixed wheel and swivel-wheel:
Fixed-wheel Joggers
Fixed wheel joggers are the traditional form of jogging stroller. The larger wheels mean a smoother ride for your child and the fixed front wheel tracks in a straight line with minimal input from you. That way you can focus on your running stride.
Swivel-wheel Joggers
This jogger is especially useful for urban environments or high population densities where maneuverability is a key. It's also a good 'one size fits all' stroller if you are running and walking, plus traveling or shopping. Some of these strollers let you lock the front wheel in place for traditional jogger function and swiveling for great maneuverability when you need it.If you're looking for an everyday stroller that you can also jog with I'd say go with one that has a swivel wheel.

Baby Jogger made the original jogging stroller...yes, it is an excellent choice for jogging.
We have B.O.B. and it literally changed my life. I puffy heart our B.O.B., we even packed it up and brought it to Hawaii with us on this trip. It makes things SO much easier in terms of pushing (so much easier than our Graco). Plus it folds up nicely, we have a sedan on this trip and get it flat enough for the trunk.
We looked at Baby Jogger too but we preferred the B.O.B. Have you tried any to see which you like better? I highly recommend playing around with them before you purchase since it's such a big purchase. We got the B.O.B. at one of REI's B.O.B. sales (I think there's probably one coming up in the next month or so, I believe we got ours after the holidays last year).
Thanks for the input!
DH and I played around with this model and one of the BOBs. From rolling them around the store, we liked both. I'm leaning toward this one because it seems more economical and has generally good reviews as an all-around stroller. I've also seen some positive comments about its use as a light jogging stroller, but wanted to make sure before purchasing.
And I believe the City Classic also has the adjustment which allows the front wheel to swivel or stay straight.
For the price at BrU, I think I'll go ahead and order it while it's on sale. I can always return it locally if we change our mind. But I wish we could test the strollers out on an actual run first!
The City Classic isn't on this comparison chart anymore (I assume because it's being discontinued), but I'm pretty sure it isn't meant for jogging. It was listed where the City Elite is now and if I recall correctly, it was marked for "Casual Strolling" and "Power Walking" under the Ideal Activity category.
I've read lots of great things about the BOB Revolution for jogging. I'd probably go for that over the City Classic.
Ah, you're right... looks like it's being discontinued. No wonder it's on sale!
Based on the reviews, I think the City Classic should suit our basic needs. Wish I could afford to splurge on the Elite or Revolution, but they're almost twice as much and since we're trying to fund all the big baby purchases ourselves, it's probably not practical.
Thanks!
We have the Baby Jogger City Classic in brown. It's a great looking stroller with sturdy tires and easy to collapse. But it's big. And the infant car seat adaptor makes the car seat sit way out in front in the air and not in the stroller carriage, which I don't like. We used it once, then put it away and got the Snap 'n Go, which I have been much happier with.
To be honest.... I wish we had gotten the BOB. The Baby Jogger strollers are NOT for jogging, they are for walking on uneven surfaces and power walking - not running. But the BOB Revolution is not for running either, same deal. However, if we had the BOB we would have used that instead of the Snap 'n Go all these months.
You know that you can't take a baby JOGGING until they are 6 months or 1 year old, right? It'll hurt their neck to take them too early. You might want to just get a Snap 'n Go to use with the infant car seat and then get the jogging stroller later...... That's what I plan to do. And keep in mind that you can find a ton of jogging strollers on Craigslist! The wheels are bigger and look different (lighter).

To be honest, it won't get used THAT much as a jogging stroller. I just wanted DH to have it as a possibility since he does like to go running around our neighborhood. I also don't want to purchase multiple strollers since we don't have the space to store them, so we're mainly looking for an overall good bet.
Our main goal is to buy one main multi-use stroller. We also have a smaller hand-me-down one that is more portable and can be used for quick outings. Generally, we don't plan to use the infant carrier that much with the stroller (only time will tell, though), since I'd prefer to carry the baby in a sling or wrap when they are tiny. It's helpful to know just how the infant seat would fit into this, though... I was wondering about that.
Also, unfortunately, there's no REI here... sounds like we need one though!
Thanks, again, for all the great input!

We got to meet up with MrsNFB and her cutie patootie son SP a few days ago and got to see what the B.O.B. felt like. John fell in love with it and I think now he has his heart set on getting one. He really liked how easy it was to handle.
