I joined a gym last week and Monday will be my first day. I need to lose weight and tone up. Right now I am 250 lbs. We have been ttc baby number 2 for almost 2 years with no luck (I did misscarrie about a year ago). I was not going to pay for a trainer but someone said it may be best to make sure I know proper fourm when doing weights or things to tone up. My plan is to see the trainer every few mos to change my workout if needed. I know she us booked this week so I will make an appt for next week. I am just wondering if someone here can help me with a plan for this week untill I meet with the trainer. I am going to inshape health club and the one I am going to is for females only. So it's not huge but but has cardio and weights.
Here is the center I am going to

can anyone help with me with a plan for this week. And does my plan sound ok seeing a trainer every few mos to change what needs to be changed?
Re: Gym help.
1. Schedule a yearly check up with your doctor and ask him/her if you can start working out since you are starting from zero.
2. I'd meet with the trainer several times (maybe once/week for a month) to learn how to use the machines, make sure you are lifting correctly, etc. Then follow up once a month or so. Many gyms will sell "packages" for xxx number of trainer sessions for cheaper than paying for them one by one. Once you get comfortable, you can also join the group exercise classes.
3. Don't forget that you can't lose weight by exercise alone. Eat a well balanced diet (diet does not mean "crash diet"; it means only a way of eating) with lots of fruits, veggies, lean meats, and the occasional treat/splurge meal. Track your calories or join Weight Watchers.

You've already gotten some great advice. I'd just add that you may also want to check out the classes that your gym offers.
Even if you just use them on occasion to mix it up a bit. If you find one that interests you, show up a few minutes early and introduce yourself to the instructor and tell them you're new. I find in the group exercise classes I get a varied workout which is great for me since I cannot stay motivated to go do my own thing all of the time. DH on the other hand can't stand classes. Everyone is different, so the key is finding out what works for YOU.
Good luck, and congrats on making the commitment to start.
My doctor is ok with me working out. I am also doing weight watchers. Not meetings but I have gone a little bit ago and have all the books and papaers that I need to do it at home. The trainer is $40 each time I see them and I cant make that happen each week thats why I was thinking ever other month to 3-4 mos out. I will also in a few weeks do a few of the classes a week as well.
