Photog Girls...

Just a question..

Sometimes I see photos where it looks like the edges are somewhat darker than the center of the photo. I know that there is a feature that you can use on the computer in order to edit your photo that way.

But I was wondering, is there a filter that you can use for that too? Or can you only edit the photo later?

TIA =D

Re: Photog Girls...

  • And Canon girls..

    Any recs on macro lenses? This would be my first one..and I'm eyeing the 100mm macro IS...but a little spendy. Could it really be that different from the one that doesn't have IS?

  • You can make the edges darker using a "Edge Burn" in Photoshop. I downloaded some actions from http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/

    Not sure how familiar you are with Photoshop, or even if you have it, but I love using actions. They are like quick one-step adjustments for you photos, then you can adjust the opacity.

     As for the lens, I'm no help there. I just got my Canon XSi for my birthday in November, and still waiting to upgrade my lenses. Would love to hear if anyone has any ideas though.

    EDIT: Just re-read your post, and realized you were asking something else. Not sure if there is a filter for it. I like adjusting after the fact to keep the original picture intact.

  • Post-processing is where I add the vignetting.  It's nice to be able to control the opacity of it when you add it as another layer.

    As for the 100mm macro, we have the one without IS because it was the only one available at the time.  It's a really nice lens and we've used for both macro shots and portraits.  I'm not sure if we'd really need the IS so we're not even considering replacing it with the new one that you're talking about.

    Now if we DIDN'T have a 100mm macro lens and were looking to get one, since the price difference between the two is only $400, we would seriously consider spending that extra money just so that we'd have another L-glass lens.  With my old 20D, it wouldn't matter so much but with John's full frame 5D Mark II with the super high resolution, the higher the lens quality, the better the photos.
