What is your pantry like?

I keep watching shows on HGTV and TLC (late nights with the baby), and I see so many great pantrys, I am jealous :(

Our pantry is tiny - it's a tiny closet with bi-fold doors.  There is food spilling out and that doesn't include the stuff in our lazy susan cabinet (cans and jars).

I would love a large pantry... I am so envious when I see a walk-in- one especially!

Re: What is your pantry like?

  • We have a main one by the fridge that has 4 pull out drawers and then one smaller one/taller on going into the dining room.

They are fine for what we need. We don't stock up on processed foods and canned products so we usually don't have them filled too much. Most of the 3 shelves is stuff for baking and cookies. :o) The things that are not used on a daily basis but you need to grab often enough.

  • Our house was built around 1900, so there was a large butler's pantry. At some point, 1/2 of it was remodeled into a 1/2 bath, but we still have the other half. Our kitchen is so tiny that I am soooo appreciative of our pantry- it's L-shaped, with 4 glass cupboards above, counter space, and 4 closed cupboards below for the pots and pans.

We need to do a remodel in the near future, and I really want to keep it. We shall see.

  • Ours is pretty big - I would guess about 5 or 6 feet across with tons of shelves and beautiful wooden doors (two that open in the middle).

I am constantly reorganizing it though because DH cannot possibly put things back where they belong. Wink

  • We don't have a pantry, just cabinet space. The shelves are separated by type of time - canned, chips/crackers, boxes (taco shells, mac &cheese), jars, etc. A real pantry would be nice but not possible with the layout of our kitchen.

  • it's just a closet with those white wire shelves in it. Nothing fancy
  • I have no pantry- just kitchen cabinets where I can't even stand a bottle of vinegar or box of cereal upright b/c the shelves don't adjust and aren't spaced right. I would KILL for ANY type of pantry or workable shelving system.
  • We have a very tiny one in the kitchen that is only six inches deep so I have two big shelves down at the bottom at our basement stairs to hold all the extras.  I just keep stuff I am going to be using throughout the week in the kitchen one and then restock it on Mondays after I grocery shop.

  • I am so jealous of anyone with a pantry. We just have cabinets... granted we have a lot of cabinet space, but I would also love a pantry. Guess I can keep dreaming. :-)
  • Ours is exactly like our tiny linen closet, with crappy wire shelves.  You can't even stack cans, because the shelves bend and the cans fall over!!  It's very disorganized because of this.  We're renting though, so there's nothing I can/care to do about it.
