So NYC was Fab!

We had a great time!  Tried to go down to Times Square but of course it was all blocked off so we just got some adult beverages and headed to the room for our own celebration.

We hit all the major tourist must sees, rode the subway, took a few taxis, did the carriage ride through Central Park, saw Trinity Catholic & St. Patricks Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, Empire State bldg, took the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty, etc.

DH's first time in a plane was an experience.  When they closed the door to the plane he looked at me and said "I cant do this, Squeshia we got to get off".  I told him we couldnt get off and he said oh yes I can.  LOL.  Poor fella shook like a leaf in a hurricane, but once we were up in the air he was fine.  I laughed at him until I cried, but he did good.  The second plane (we had a connection to make in Philly) he did it like a pro.  I was very proud of him and now he thinks that flying is the way to travel (Hawaii here we come lol).

And thanks to the girls that recommended Essex for brunch - YUMO!!!!  OMG it was so good and our waitress kept us (me) filled with Mimosas.  It was clearly the best we ate while in NY.  We also found a little Gyro joint that DH fell in love with right by the hotel.

All in all - GREAT trip, but we were definately happy to get home.  Are we strange that we really missed our cat??  As soon as we walked in the door he was on the chair waiting for us and I just picked him up and loved him - I think he grew while we were gone!

  • So glad you had a great trip!
  • sounds excellent!

I'm just curious about Times Square...did you have to have tickets to get inside the blocked off part? was there a max. number of people allowed and you just didn't get there in time?

  • Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip!  Personally, I've always thought times square was completely overrated, so don't be sad that you missed that one.  You were still in NYC for the big moment, had some good eats, took in a lot of cool sites--sounds like a good trip to me too!!

And about that cat thing--yeah, I totally agree.  We couldn't hug and kiss our little boy cat enough when we got back from our trip up north!

They allow so many people into the bullpens - no need for tickets you just have to get there early enough - like 12 or 1 in the afternoon.  This means standing on your feet for hours at a time not being allowed to leave the bullpens b.c you couldnt have gotten back to your spot.  Which ALSO means, no pottys and no food.  Unless you were lucky to get by somewhere with a bathroom.  We could have walked down to 59th street - which was a LONG way - but we would have had to have walked back.  We just took in the sights and sounds as we walked back to the hotel.

I would def recommend this place.  I got the Mexican something - eggs with peppers, onions, tortillas, pico de gallo and black beans.  Dh got The Southern (you can take the boy out of the country, but you cant take the country out of the boy) scrambled eggs, country style steak, biscuits and gravy.  We both were very pleased!!  And did I mention that the Mimosas were REALLY good?!  :-)

  • Glad you had fun!  I really hope we can do a trip this year.

Personally, NYE in Times Square is something I've never had a desire to do - standing for 12 hours in the cold, with no food, no drinks and no bathroom is not my idea of a good time!  Now, if I could get a hotel room overlooking it (which I'm sure is $$$), or knew someone with an apartment or office that overlooked it, that would be a different story!

  • Aw, so glad you had a nice trip. I don't think you're strange for missing your cat, I was really excited to pick up my dog after being gone for Christmas, except once I did pick her up I didn't want to touch her b/c she smelled.
  • Sounds like a great trip!!

  • Glad you had a great time!

I miss my old home town.

  • Sounds like a lot of fun.  I totally get missing your cat, I miss my girls terribly when we go away, and there is nothing like the purring and pure joy when the see you come home.
  • I'm so glad you had a fabulous time! Seriously, that's exactly what a trip to NY should be... FABULOUS.

I told DH that I want to go there sooooo badly, but I want to have loads of cash saved up so I can go shopping and blow a bunch of money on frivolous things on 5th avenue. Cool

  • sounds like a good trip. I miss our cat when we go away. We took him on our most recent trip, so that was not an issue this time.
