A Vent about doctors

I have been having a lot of pain issues as many of you know. I've put myself back on a GF diet to see if that will help my pain which so far it has. However I want to get back to the doctors and try to FINALLY get a diagnosis of whatever it may be.

I am being proactive but the stupid system is holding me back. Dr. Nina Sax is one of the best GI's in the area and is at the same practice as my previous Dr. So my practice will not let me see her unless there is this huuuuuge review to switch doctors. I'm soooo PISSSED.

At every single doctors I have ever had....you see whatever doctor you want within the practice. I'm sure if you kept switching back and forth all the time they would speak up because it's not good to do it too much but honestly...once...in the practice and I'm getting problems?

I'm thinking of having one of two friends pull strings because they are good friends with the Dr but I hate to be that person....but at the same time...I so do not want to deal and I want the best and want answers after 5 years. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

Re: A Vent about doctors

  • hmmmm i dont know much about this, but to clarify: you used to see Dr. "Y" who is also in the same practice as Dr. Sax... but now you are at a different practice and want to go back to the original practice to be with Dr. Sax and they wont let you?

Was there a specific reason why your old Dr was no good - maybe if you discus it with them, they will let you switch?

Ive never tried to completely switch doctors within a practice before, so I dont know how that works, but normally, if you schedule an appt with one doc and they cant be there, they just assign you to another doc/Nurse practitioner....

  • I'm not at any practice at the moment. Technically I'm with the same one as I am not seeing any other GI's.

All  I want to do is switch within the practice and they are making  a huuuuge case about. I have heard wonderful things about this doctor, things I didn't know when I originally went. My doctor is nice but no...I don't vibe with him and would prefer to try her as I have several friends who are friend with her and also I know someone who sees her and raves about her.

I just wish it wasn't such a hassle. I also wish Albany wasn't so small and there was a larger field of GI doctors to have amazing reps to pick from. Blech.

  • How frustrating!  As long as your insurance would cover it, why do they care which doctor you see?  I would pull whatever strings you need to, just be polite and civil throughout.  I can't imagine you'd get an "Oh, it's HER!" reputation unless you were mean about it to the scheduling/receptionist people.  Which, as a lovely Nestie, would never happen.  :-)

  • I too don't understand why they won't let you schedule an appointment with her- you're an established patient in the PRACTICE not with your particular doctor necessarily. I know Dr. Sax's been speaking a lot lately on various radio programs and other locations, so getting an appointment may be difficult, but not impossible. Also- in the same practice are several NOTED doctors in GI- Dr. Notis and Dr. Gilray are 2 that come to mind from my days in Pharma research, and Dr. Polito specializes in inflammatory diseases and is the CHIEF of Gastro at St. Pete's. If you are SURE you want to see Dr. Sax- I say- be that person and pull strings to get to see her- the doctor won't know what you did to secure the appt, and frankly probably won't care.
  • I gave up on that practice. Too much work and too much stress. Totally not worth it. I found another one highly recommended from a good friend who has his own practice, 30-45 min appointments vs 15 min appointments which is usually cut down to 5 after they are late.
