Did anyone set a weight loss goal?

Or just to lose weight.  I can't ever figure out which one is better for me.  Sometimes if I hold myself to a number and I have something to achieve, it drives me harder but I know that the long term goal should just to eat healthy + exercise overall.

 What's your drive/motivation/strategy?

Re: Did anyone set a weight loss goal?

  • I set a 'goal', but not a weight loss one... not really.

I have friends (who are mentioning it on FB) who want to do the Broad Street Run (in Phila in May).  I thought I could def do a 5K, but realize it's a 10K-which means it's prob a full hour of running! yeah...

I also measured myself and weighed self the other day.  I have gained 5" in my waist alone.  Along with this loveliness... I took out all of my 'no fit me' workpants.  I had 8 PAIRS OF PANTS THAT DO NOT FIT MY FAT A$$.  I was floored!

So, my goal is to get back into these pants, to do the 5k, and hope that this all helps me feel better-have more energy, and like my body if not love it.

  • My weight loss goal has always been to get to 110 which is towards the lower end of the recommended weight for my height (5ft).  The closest I've come was 118 in grad school, but I was running almost every day and lived with a health nut who motivated me to eat better.

On my journey to getting to 110 from where I am now, my first big goal is to lose 10% of myself.  I also set up smaller goals with rewards.  For example, when I lose 7 lbs I get to use the Coach gift card I received at Christmas.

  • I just want to get rid of this muffin top gut!  Aside from pregnancy, knowing my weight makes me crazy so I never really know it.

  • I have no summer clothes that fit.  An entire closet full of clothes of various seasons that don't fit.  By the summer, I would like to at least fit into half of them.  I realize that I will likely never fit into my 2's again and should just get rid of them but I think the 6's are doable.  That is my goal.

I wont confess how many inches I have gained but with the meds and the hormone garbage I am up 3 sizes from the wedding.  YUCK YUCK YUCK.

My wii fit is collecting dust. I WILL use it more. I also want to get Wii Fit plus.

My bike has flat tires.  I WILL ride it (after I get some butt pads Stick out tongue)

I already eat healthy so the activity is what's missing.

ETA: I have a funny feeling the upcoming testing and procedures I will be going through, my body will take a slight beating.  I would like to be healthier and more fit for that process.  Overall, a fit body recovers quicker and I am all about a quicker recovery.

  • I want to try to lose around 10-15lbs... And just get back in shape. I think I may start going with M to the gym. He works out 5-6 days a week, so I can at least try to go a couple of times with him every week. I got a couple of Jillian Michael's workout DVDs from a friend of ours so I'm going to give those a shot this week. I need to get myself into healthy eating habits too. The holidays killlllled us! I need to buckle down and start bringing a lunch to work instead of going out almost everyday. Since we're TTC again, M wants to get me in good shape (I want to be also) so I can get back into a good workout/diet routine after I have a baby.

    What about you K? What's your drive/motivation/strategy?
ETA: Nevermind you posted right before I did : )

  • As soon as I get back to BJ's for fruit (they have a fabulous fruit believe it or not) and have the money to do the big food shopping, I am going back on my protein diet.
  • My main goal is to be healthier (eating and exercising-wise).  I KNOW that I feel better when I stick to this, so that's my motivation.  It's a pretty stark contrast in how I feel (mood, body, overall) when I'm sticking to healthy habits and when I'm not.

I have a running weight loss goal (siggy obviously).  I find it hard to say "lose X amount of weight by X date."  That usually backfires for me.  It's really a day-by-day process.  I have a hard time conceptualizing it over the long-term, I probably get overwhelmed by it.

Right now my main motivation is for TTC.  I want to be the healthiest I can be (or pretty darn close) for pregnancy and afterwards.  I think it'll be easier to ingrain healthy habits now to maintain during pregnancy and afterwards, both for me and our family.  Plus, ideally, I don't want to have to worry about losing both pregnancy weight AND fat weight.

This is my main motivation too.  I was doing so well last year.....until DH came home from deployment and all my will-power went out the window.  If I can lose 10lbs by the time we start TTC this summer, I'll be happy.  That will put me at a number I'm comfortable with and is within my healthy weight range.

I was thinking about this yesterday.  I got pretty good results using the Wii Fit (personal trainer and Wii Fit Active), but I need to clean out our upstairs guest room in order to make room to use it.  That will be my goal for this weekend!

  • Usually I have a specific weight loss goal or number that I try to reach.  For the wedding I was aiming for 125, I got to 128, which was pretty darn good considering where I started.  I (obviously) am not aiming to lose weight right now, but I do need to taper off my weight gain (I was only supposed to gain 25lbs and at my last appt I had already gained 13lbs...), and I really need to get in better shape if I plan on getting this baby out with no meds!
  • My orig weight 'goal' was to get back to where I was when I met DH-which was 162.  At 5'7" and semi-big boned (shoulders like a linebacker), I was starting to look 'thin' in the face-even though my BMI is lower than that.  Right now, I'd LOVE to be back there.  I'd love to be at 150-155, but really think it would be too hard to maintain.

Lots of good wishes to those who want to be healthy for their babies! That's awesome!

  • I'm 5'2".  By the wedding, I weighed 145.  I'd lost 26lbs.  My goal had been 130, but I was very happy to fit into an 8.  Now, after the baby and the holidays, I weigh about 167 or so again.  I want to re-lose that 25 and get to 130 if I can.  And I want to motivate my husband, who really needs to lose.  And I want my baby to see a healthy mommy so she can learn healthy eating.

My only real goal is to stick to my diet because I know it works.  I can lose a pound a week if I stick to it.  So 25 weeks from now, I should be well on my way.  And by next Christmas, I should be hot stuff.

And none of my NEW pants fit.  I'm afraid I'll bust a seam.  My jeans are all uncomfortably tight, and so are the belted tops I bought.  I'm SO not a 10 right now.

I might consider starting running (starting by walking).  It feels like a good idea.  It's just SO cold outside at night (says the big SoCal baby).

I may not get to this again (104...I had been sick and hadn't gotten my chest yet)...

But I'm going to get reasonably close (125 or so).

This is totally me!  I have started a gluten free diet per the suggestion of a naturalist I saw.  He told me to try it for 2 months and then try eating gluten again and compare how I feel.  He thinks it's what is contributing to my on going list of problems.  But I want to lose weight too.  I just packed up all my size 6's and brough back out the 8's and 10's.  I dropped down to 138 before the wedding and that's the skinniest I've even been.  Ideally I'd like to be around 145-150.  Right now I'm about 160 Sad

  • I want to lose 20lbs and DH wants to lose at LEAST that. I didn't lose as much as I wanted for the wedding and have gained everything back I lost for it *sigh*. My BMI is like a pound into overweight ugh. I've been slipping with eating healthy, but now that the holidays are over, I'm on a mission! I've been doing wii fit a lot and 30 day shred. I really love the 'free step' on wii fit plus. If I'm watching a show, I'll turn it on and step on the fastest setting. DH is FINALLY on board with me about packing his lunch. I told him I'd even pack it for him if he'd stop eating out with his buddy! They go to taco bell and other ridiculous fast food places daily and it makes me crazy, not only is it terrible for him, it's expensive! We don't have the money for new wardrobes either, so we have no choice!
  • I want to lose the 10 pounds or so that I have gained since the wedding.  I was doing really well and injured myself in November.  Then the holidays and a vacation came so I really need to get myself going again.

I'm just going to try to keep better track of what I'm eating.  I also plan on incorporating more weight training into my workouts.

    What is that?

  • I just ahve a goal to at a minimum maintain my weight but preferrably lose 10 -20 pounds. If I maintian my current weight, I will not be upset. I would be thrilled to lose, but I know the difficulties I've had with it the last several years and the thyroid issue I have to monitor, so I am happy with where I am if that's as low as I can go.

My plan is to actually think about what I eat. Lots of times I will say I only ate XXX and leave out all the bad things in between. So I want to really pay attention to what I eat and stay healthy. I eat really healthy now, but DH and I fall into going out to eat all the time stages too often.

Also, I must exercise at least 15 minutes every day. Just getting your heart rate up will help boost your metabolism and help you drop some pounds. I also want to start working out more regularly. I know if I want to lose enough weight to be anywhere near where I was when I graduated high school, I'm going to have to be running a minimum of 3 miles a day, plus sprints and ab workouts. I also know this is unrealistic bc even in hs I didnt have the motivation to do it, I was forced by the sport. However, I know with a regular workout routine, I could drop 10 lbs over quite a period of time.

Also, even though DH is incredibly thin, I try to motivate him to eat really healthy and workout too. I've noticed that I fall into bad habits much more easily when he's tempting me with them.

  • P and I are planning on running a Muddy Buddy race in July.  So my goal is to be able to finish that and not have to be carried off the course.  I have gained 30lbs since I moved to NY, I no longer run and I used to love it.  The winter months, I get severe seasonal depression and it's a daily fight for me to even get out of my pj's and shower let alone exercise but I'm hoping this race will get me moving.

A good sign yesterday was that I ate 4 clementines because I just couldn't do the heavy foods any longer.

I also have a policemans ball to go to at in less than 3 weeks and I'm pretty sure it's not going to look pretty if I don't start moving soon.

  • My actual goal is to just be healthier, but my secret goal (which isn't exactly completely secret) is to lose 20-25 pounds. I've always been "big" for my size (when I was a size 2-4, I was 130-140 pounds), but I'd ideally like to get back down to 150-155 pounds. Hopefully by the end of the year.

My motivation is to be healthier. Plus I'd really like to fit comfortably into my jeans and work pants (which still fit but are a smidgen tight). Plus I'd like to feel comfortable just being me. =)
