Stainless Steel and Fingerprints

I got several new stainless steel small appliances for Christmas and the fingerprints are killing me! What is the quickest, most effective way to get these off? I'll swipe them with whatever I'm cleaning with after meals, but it usually doesn't totally get rid of them. I know they'll be right back as soon as they are touched again, but what gets them off the best?

Re: Stainless Steel and Fingerprints

  • Hmm, we got some stuff when we bought our fridge... but it came with the fridge (which was from Sears) so I don't know where to get it or if it even has a brand name.

NM, I just found it on Sears' site

Works very well on any stainless steel surface we have (fridge, small appliances, canisters, etc).  We hardly ever see fingerprints on anything unless FIL comes over.  He has sticky fingers apparently.

  • Pledge or baby oil works great!  I usually use Pledge (the kind you spray on your wood) but our cleaning lady always used baby oil.  I think Pledge is easier though.
  • I really like the Mrs Meyer's SS Spray. All our major appliances are SS, and most of the countertop ones as well and we don't have a fingerprint issue. Even with 2 toddlers in the house, and that's saying alot. Windows and mirrors on the other hand, are covered in tiny handprints.
  • We have ss appliances and I bought these wipes they sell at HEB, I don't remember the brand but I have to say they rock!!  No streaking or having to put a bunch of elbow grease into it.  We got some liquid stuff with our fridge and I hated using it because you really had to work hard at not leaving streaks behind.  It's in a grey and black container, the same kind of container the Clorox wipes come in.
  • Thanks! I've got Pledge at home, so I'll give it a go and maybe pick up one of the other suggestions.
  • I just use Windex and it is great.

  • This stuff has worked really well for me. We have some stainless and some "stainless look" appliances and this does the trick on both (and wood and glass as well!) - http://www.pledge.com/multi-surface-aerosol/
