I thought I'd start a new post on this since futuremrshuff started her NYE poll and we got some replies!! Looks like a lot of us have fitness goals!
What is your goal?
What's your favorite workout spot?
I want to start running this year..I'm a running wuss but I want to run the Race for the Cure this spring and I want to be able to run on the weekends with my husband.
I workout several times a week at Spectrum (1604/Bandera) and I pretty much hate working out BUT I love hiking at Friedrich's Park. You forget that you're in the city! If you haven't checked it out and want a nice workout..I highly recommend it.
Also, for those of you looking to lose weight, try going to sparkpeople.com. It's a totally free website that allows you to track your eating and workouts, it's amazing!
Re: Fitness goals in 2010?
My main fitness goal is pretty broad, just to get back to working out at least 5 days a week. I used to ride the exercise bike for 45 minutes everyday before work. Then we moved, got new jobs, got married, etc and that sort of just disappeared in all the chaos. So, I want to get back into that habit. I actually started up again right before Christmas, it's hard getting up (I'm so not a morning person!!) but I know I won't have the motivation to do it at night.
Right now I don't have any workout spots other than my living room! But we live right on the bay so I want to start taking advantage of that and going for walks along the water.
Oliviosis! Thank you for making all my pestering on the knottie boards worth something!!!!
I too am a running wuss so I'm making it a goal to walk at least 30 minutes (preferably more) a day and strength train every day.
My favorite workout spot is my house because my hubby is my biggest cheerleader and I love the confused look on my dog's face like she's never seen mommy break a sweat!
Michelle, I know you knew Keith way back when..did you know Mike Burns?? He's my trainer at Spectrum..and the reason Keith and I met!
I want to start running more also. My FI loves to run, I usually go with him once a week. I want it to be more like 3 times a week.
We are about to move close to 1604/Bandera, how is the Spectrum there? Do they have a lot of classes there also? I don't mind working out at the gym, but I really like to have some kind of group activity.
Right now the most common place is Salado park, but its been a while since it gets dark so early!
RMS77, yes they do seem to have a lot of classes. I am not much of a joiner when it comes to classes...I have no coordination but I take their "circuit" class on Thurs at 5pm (it's also on Tues but I work out with my trainer that day). It's an hour long class that alternates 5 min of cardio and 5 min of weights with a trainer and ends with a good ab workout.
I've been a member there for about 4 years and I've been training with their personal trainers for about 3 so clearly I like it. It's very very crowded right now w the new years resolution and post holiday people but it calms down after spring break.
They have free week long trial passes if you want to check it out!
Friedrich's Park is out I-10 near Leon Springs. It's actually across the highway from the Dominion. They have some paved trails and a few miles of unpaved trails. It's a nice park, lots of families there on the weekends and quite a few trail runners in the steeper parts.
I haven't been brave enough to try Zumba..I've watched it from the safety of the treadmill!!
