So DH and I are in agreement about this, but my mom thinks I'm being rude.
Every year there is a 'DH's last name" family Christmas party. This years its on January 9th. Its at his aunt's house. DH is going, Hunter and I are not. Hunter and I are not going because his aunt and uncle smoke in the house as do the majority of the people that will be attending the party, so it will be a huge smoky mess and I don't want Hunter breathing that in. Its bad enough he has to breathe in the Iowa coldness.
My mom thinks we should just go and I think its understandable that we aren't going. Yes, there will be other kids there, but those kids for the most part are either older or living in homes where the parents smoke anyways.
Thoughts and opinions?
(And FWIW, I don't really care if DH's family gets peeved with us as that is the side of the fam we generally try to avoid) .
Re: What thinks you my ladies?
Ummmmmmmmm its not rude AT ALL!
Its INSANE that your mom thinks its ok for a new born or any child to be in a house full of smokers whoe smoke INSIDE!
If they were all smoking outside, then ya go...But smoking inside, HELL NO!!!!
If it was at my ILs house like it was supposed to be, we'd totally go as everyone smokes in the garage or outside.
But alas, they got outvoted because DH's aunt and uncle just built a new addition that everyone wants to see.
Unless DH's family agrees to not smoke inside while you're there, I wouldn't go. Who really thinks it's appropriate to smoke inside around babies in 2010?
If they get mad at you over this, that's their problem!
Thanks girls! You have reassured me
I think you're right, and smart! There is NO way I would take a baby, child, or myself into that mess!
Definitely wouldn't go, and they can think whatever they want. And ditto Breanne!
Heck no. If they wanted Hunter there that bad, they would have had it at your ILs house. Obviously the new addition is more important, so why would you go somewhere where your baby's health isn't a priority? Rude, schmude, who gives a flip what they think. If you really think they're going to be offended, just make up another excuse that you have a respiratory infection so you can't be around smoke, that way you don't sound judgey. But I'd probably just come right out and be judgey!
