Re: Tech help.

  • Hey Nicole!

I read your blog entry last night.  I'll ask my DH for you.  He is an IT guy and deals with external hard drives a lot at work.  Hopefully he'll have some info for you.  I'll report back later!  Big Smile

  • Hope you don't mind, but I copied some of the questions off your blog so I could respond to them.  Big Smile  I hope this helps you out some---let me know if you have any other questions!

What brand is good; Seagate, Western Digital, Iomega, Simple Tech, Toshiba, HP and the list goes on.

Seagate and Western Digital are the most reputable brands.  The others woud probably work just fine depending on the connection type you have.  As with anything, check user reviews before purchasing.

What type of connection is the best; USB or Ethernet? With or without eSATA or Firewire???

The connection type all depends on the type of connection your computer has.  For example, not all computers have eSATA or Firewire.  eSATA and Firewire ports are next to the USB ports, if you have them.  They are normally labeled.  Ethernet is good if you have a 1GIG port, but most standard computers only have 100 Mbs.  USB is good as long as it is a USB 2.0 port.  For standard usage, USB is the most popular and the most economical.
