Hi girls...

I am sorry I haven't been able to post until now.  After the funeral, my mom and I flew home to NC where she just moved way out in the country, like 45 minutes from civilization.  I had no cell service, and internet was hit and miss.  I was able to briefly check my email and facebook before it would get hung up and I had to give up before I threw the computer out the window.

First of all, I want to thank you girls from the bottom of my heart for your suport, prayers, thoughts, cards, contributions, etc, etc.  As some of you know, I really don't have many friends in this state and the only family here are my inlaws.  I was so touched by the way you girls banned together to be here for me.  I am really thankful for this board and the wonderful ladies on it.

The service and calling hours were nice.  I think Mike would be pleased.  He is a big Pink Floyd fan so I had the instrumental version of "wish you were here" playing when the pall bearers (sp?) brought him down the aisle.  I also had the hawiian version of "somewhere over the rainbow" (from 50 first dates- he LOVED that movie and that song was at our wedding) playing when they took him out of the chapel.  I think he loved it.  Then we all went back to my father inlaw's and celebrated Mike's life in our traditional way (They are Irish, enough said ;-) )

So the funeral was Wednesday, and Thursday, Christmas Eve, we flew to NC.  I just got back today.  Tonight is the first night I have been alone since he passed.  So far its going awful.  It was kind of easy to push Mike to the back of my mind when I was in NC because he didn't usually go with me so it was easy to subconsiously think he was just in NY.  I meet with the lawyer tomorrow to tie up some loose ends.  Luckily I don't have to make any decisions about moving anytime soon. I most likely go  back to NC eventually although we bought double crypts so I will always end up back here :-).  We would always joke about our "retirement home" that we bought in Pittsford lol.

Well I guess that brings yall up to date.  I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year.  I won't go back to work until next Monday so I hope to catch up on all the posts in the meantime between other chores.

xoxo

Re: Hi girls...

  • I am so glad to hear that things went well.  I know it must have been the hardest thing you've ever had to do, but it sounds like Mike's life was celebrated in a way that represented him and the love that you shared.

I'm sure it's going to be a long road but you can come here anytime to talk, vent, or anything!  We are here for you and I'm happy to see that you are back online!  I've been thinking about you.

Take care of yourself and if you need ANYTHING, we are here for you!

  • Your service for Mike sounds like it was amazingly nice, and so personalized! And, it's good that the in-laws celebrated his life in the traditional way (I come from an Irish family, and understand the term- "Funeral Party.")

It's good that you had an "escape" to NC for a while, and I can't imagine how hard it must be to come home today. I wish there were something I could do from Albany for you. I hope the meeting with the lawyer goes well tomorrow- and luckily you have time to decide what you want to do regarding moving, etc.

Again, take care of yourself, and come here any time to vent, cry, or just escape.

  • Thanks so much for checking in. You have been on my mind. The service sounded just right, and I am sure Mike loved it. <hugs>
