Valentines Dinner party...any ideas?
Hi girls!
So Valentines day is next up! DH and I were talking and we are thinking of hosting a dinner party for us and 4 other couples.
Any ideas? I want it to be fun and fancy, like send out formal invites, have named place settings! We havent hosted a formal dinner in our new place yet! Thought this could be fun!
Would a Turkey be weird to serve? I have one in the freezer.
Re: Valentines Dinner party...any ideas?
Yeah, turkey seems a little weird to me.
I've been dying to try this menu for Valentine's Day.
Warm Butter-Poached Lobster Salad with Tarragon-Citrus Dressing
Chanterelle and Parmesan Oysters
Filet Mignon with Herb and Cheese Potatoes
Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto
Raspberry-Cream Pavlovas
I've made the pavlovas and they're amazing. Since it's Valentine's Day, I would throw in a few aphrodisiacs (oysters, etc.) and make it truly decadent.
Wow! I am going to have to try some of those!
I agree that it should be decadent! I thought turkey might be weird... just thought I would see what you ladies thought
I just a friendly gal looking for options.
You could make postengagement chicken, but only if you're on NEY.
Instead I'd make:
Figs with ricotta, pistachio, and honey (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/figs-with-ricotta-pistachio-and-honey-recipe/index.html)
Then roasted beef tenderloin with rosemary, chocolate, and wine sauce (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/roasted-beef-tenderloin-with-rosemary-chocolate-and-wine-sauce-recipe/index.html)
Then simple strawberries, bananas, pineapple, apple with fresh whipped cream, caramel & chocolate for dipping
Waste not, want not. Go for the turkey...
But because yes, it's kind of weird, i would suggest carving it before you serve, rather than presenting it as a whole bird. And besides, if you want to have a truly formal dinner party, I would not recommend doing it in a pass-the-dish style anyway. Each plate should ideally be done individually.
Btw, I saw some cute valentines invites on tinyprints.
Thanks for all the suggestions girls! I have a lot to think about!
I was doing some searching and the beef tenderloin came up a lot as a Vday dish...
here are a couple ideas from my blog!
