Jeff (my DH) is getting it done on the 20th. We got a good price for being season ticket holders at this really superb practice (the doctor that is doing Jeff's is one of the top in the country and the other doctor in the practice headed the trial for LASIK to be approved by the FDA years ago. Needless to say, he's in good hands).
Any tips for me/him? They said people bounce back quickly (like working the day after) but I just wanted to see if anyone had any insight on what I could do to make his life easier, though he will be getting a dose of valium to sleep through much of the day so I'm sure he'll be feeling fine. ![]()
Thanks!
Re: Anyone have LASIK done?
Yay! I love hearing good "personal" reviews.
I'm so happy it worked so well for you. The one thing Jeff is looking forward to is being able to roll over and see the alarm clock without glasses. His eyes are so bad and he can't wait for the freedom of it.
Did the place you get it done have a guarantee? Might be something to check into...Jeff has 10 years to get "touch ups" done for free if he notices any changes in his vision.
BTW, I am THRILLED for you guys! You are going to be one awesome mom!
I had mine done 2 years ago and it was the best thing I've ever done!
I got my valium late, so all it did was knock me out AFTER the surgery. I had it done on a Thursday and took Friday off. I would suggest resting his eyes as much as possible. No pain at all- it was so easy. The worst part for me was the lid openers (think Clockwork Orange).
Also, I was 20/15 the next day, but I did notice my vision was quite variable for a couple of weeks. So don't panic if it seems like it gets a bit blurry from time to time (initially).
Good luck to him!
My place didn't have a guarantee- which is why I recommend it to anyone who can get it done at a location where there is one- I did notice slight changes after about 6 years or so- but not big enough to justify paying again (it was only 20/40 and 20/60,) but now with the drastic change in vision from my pregnancy- I could cash in on a free "tune-up" if it doesn't return to normal, rather than forking out another $2000 if my place had a guarantee- but to me, even having to possibly pay again- it was still totally worth it and I'd pay again.
Funny you mention the alarm clock- I remember waking from my nap after my surgery and seeing the clock on the nightstand for the first time since kindergarten and being amazed (nap aided by a couple of Benadryl I took before going in so I COULD sleep after.) My breaking point before the surgery was while at HT's house- I got up in the middle of the night to pee, stubbed my foot on the toilet, and broke it in 4 places- I went for the Lasik consult the next day!
This is so good to know - thanks!
GlenLake,
Where are you located? I have been thinking about getting Lasick for the last couple years. I told myself I would do it for my birthday and tomorrow the time is up! Time to see someone about this.
I am in the Capital District. If you are around here, where are you going?
I'm actually a former upstater but now live in the Washington, DC area. I have $1500 off lasik at Eye Doctors of Washington here if you want a vacation
$1500 off? If you dont mind me asking, how much is it to get Lasik done? I thought it was only like $2000 or so... A friend of mine wet to Canada to get it done... he can see perfectly now!
I would love to get Lasik someday... I know my eyes arent going to tolerate contacts forever... and my vision is so bad, I cant see anything thats right in fron of me, unless its like 2 feet from my eyes!
Not at all! It's $2400 an eye. Which is high, but we live in a ridiculously high COL area. But this is also not regular Lasik. It's relatively new and called "custom lasik". New machines, new protocol, new protection. It's definitely a lot of money but they can predict where your eyes will be, they have a 10 year guarantee, all pre-post op care is included and it is at a state of the art facility. That being said, I'm a bit used to a steep increase in prices from back home...DC is rough.
My grandparents had it done in Canada too and had great results!
