Poll time!

It's been too freaking quiet here... so how about a poll!

Now that we're 5 days into the New Year, how are you doing with your resolution?

We all had big things poppin last year, getting married and all, what do you think is in store for you this year?

Re: Poll time!

  • I've worked out 3 times since Friday and going to sign up for a new Zumba class today after work.  So I would say I'm doing pretty damn good!  Today was my first day back to work after holiday break and I was soooooo anxious to see if my pants were going to fit.  Uhhh....  Need to get this show on the road.

This year I am really looking forward to getting my "business" up and running strong.  I booked my first wedding which will be in August and am SUPER excited.  We have 5 friends getting married this year which means 5 fabulous weddings to attend.  Looking forward to getting our house settled and hanging some wedding photos on our walls/finishing projects around the house! :)

  • I have a lot of goals.  I like the whole 101 in 1001 concept - it's really given me some stuff to look forward to this year.  I think the big one for me that is the forerunner in my mind is running a 5k.  I have never been a runner, or much of an athlete, and it would be HUGE if I could pull that off.  I started training before Christmas, and am on the third week of the program.  *crosses fingers*  Last night didn't go so well, and I'm hoping that's not a trend.

  • "Resolutions" just get broken, so I don't make them. :)

  • My major new years resolutions are to take more time for myself, to get in better shape (I've fallen off the wagon after the wedding), and try to do more fun down time things with DH. I've decided to switch things up and go to the gym in the mornings, which works out MUCH better for me! I watch the news on the treadmill, and it really helps me wake up. Then I'm not as stressed at the end of the day when I try to finish stuff up in the lab, race to the gym, and then race home to make dinner. I'm reading for fun again, which makes so SO happy... I just hope I keep making time for it. And DH and I have been really busy, so we haven't done much for fun... but hopefully that will come.

This year will probably be low key. We bought and renovated a house in 2009, so hopefully we'll just spend this year enjoying it and saving money for when we're ready to make our next move :)

.... So you made a resolution not to make a resolution? :)

  • Karen I give you major props for getting into running.  I would love to run, but ya....  I played sports in HS and college so running any kind of distance is like a chore to me?  I enjoy long walks with my dog....  :)  but good luck to you!  That is awesome!
  • The change a week thing is working out well for us.  Both DH and I are motivated, and bloggin about it holds us accountable--I'd feel like a loser posting about a failure.

We're also paying off non-student loan debt this year--I made 2 giant payments this morning to PIF 2 cards.

Other goals that I haven't started working on yet: maintaining my 4.0 gpa and going back to the gym.

    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • I didn't really set any specific resolutions this year, just more general "eat less crap," "get back on the workout wagon," and "try to figure out where your life is going."

I wasn't very good for the first couple days of the year--it didn't help that they were weekend days--but since Sunday, I've been much better about food and am on track to reach my weekly workout goal.

As far as getting my life together goes, I've updated my resume and have been doing some serious networking with alumni and family friends in the South, trying to make that move happen (this weekend's snow storm helped that a lot, too).  I've even been thinking seriously about what it would take to start designing and selling knitwear!

So, as soon as we're rid of the peppermint bark (too yummy to just throw away), I'll be really on track!

Thanks for the encouragement!  I know what you mean about the "chore" thing.  It does kind of get boring.  The training program I'm doing works in intervals (run for X min, walk for X min, etc.) which helps keep me mentally stimulated.  It's also easier for me to think about running "sets" than one big lump distance.

I've always wanted to be a runner, but just haven't had the build or stamina for it.  I'm starting with a 5K to see how it goes... only 3ish miles doesn't sound too bad...

  • I didn't really make a resolution.  Just want to be more healthy with food choices and exercise more.  It's going well so far.  I am looking at it as a lifestyle change so the fix is more permanent.

  • Oh ya intervals is MUCH better and makes it seem less "boring"....and you lose more weight that way!  You go girl!  You may just be motivating me to run again....maybe.....  Wink
  • I didn't make New Years Resolutions, per se, but I did make a 101 things in 1001 days list - the major goal being to lose a ton of weight - but there are lots of fun little goals too. I'm doing pretty well so far I think! I started a blog to track my progress - link in siggy!

Take a look at the C25K program.  It breaks it down pretty well... some of the later weeks make some pretty big jumps, though.

  • Well I just added it to my FB page!  Big Smile  My coworker did as well.  Do you measure by time or by distance?  I am thinking distance for me...I want to run slow...only run fast when someone is chasing me.
  • I didn't make any new year's resolutions - I haven't for years for much the same reason as Kellie. I am staying committed to keeping healthy and fit. It's so easy to fall off the wagon now that our weddings are behind us, but DH and I weigh in nearly every day. We like the idea of staying our wedding weight so that motivates us.

Also, this is a photography learn year. I've got my basic equipment, and I started a blog, but I'm slow to jump into a business. I know several people now that have businesses and I'm one of those creative quirkly people that stops having fun the moment it becomes work. I have been on that photography blog on the bump (I just wish there was one on the nest), so I've been getting some fabulous tips. If I can just take pictures for my family, I'll be happy - it already paid off over the holidays and I think they are finally glad to have some decent pictures.

What else do I want to do....hmmm....read more? I'm open to suggestion. I just want to stay employed!

  • H &  I made resolutions to change our lifestyle.  He wants to lose weight and I want to be in better shape and overall healthier.  We have been doing great!  We haven't cheated and are actually enjoying the diet we're on.  H is really good about sticking to something he wants though, so I'm the one we have to worry about!

  • I don't make resolutions either but this year we have set some goals (the 101 things list - which we are still working on coming up with). My big one was to start working out again and I have been doing great. I started before NYE and I haven't missed a day yet so I am pretty proud of myself. If I reach my goal by my birthday in May DH said he will take me on a suprise beach trip some place for my bday weekend so I am really motivated to stick to it! My other major goal this year is to find a job...no luck on that one yet but I am still plugging away at it.
  • I have lots of little (and kind of vague) goals for this year towards general self-improvement. With getting married and buying a house last year, I finally feel settled and ready to concentrate on me, DH, and our relationship.

    - I want to lose weight and be healthier. I also want to be a better, healthier cook for DH and I.

    - I want to be more organized around the house and be more on top of the cleaning and chores. Don't let things get so out of control that they NEED to be done.

    - I want to continue DH and my "monthly date nights" we started.

    - I want to get back in touch with some of my professional connections and start doing more freelance work.

And on a simpler note: I am going to floss EVERY night and stop wearing my beat up UGG boots to work- they're hardly professional attire.
  • I am pg now so the whole losing the weight goal is not going to happen lol.  So I plan on continuing to work out as much as my body will let me through my pregnancy.  I am also hoping to eat healthy and finally move into my house.....eventually!!!  DH's goal is to build the baby a crib (he is very crafted that way).

  • I made a resolution to be nicer to my friend Steve...but I was half loaded and we were playing a cutthroat game of Apples to Apples so it wasn't exactly serious. *L*

Over all though I really have to get serious about WW again. I started before the wedding and did well enough to get the weight off to fit in my dress but since then i've become pretty lacks about the whole thing. I would ideally like to lose about 3lbs a month until we go on honeymoon in July. That would be about 20lbs. Perfect. I have a big picture of a beach in San Diego on the back of my door to keep me motivated and we're trying to swim at least twice a week and I'm also attending a dance class.

I also intend to start writing a small travel blog. I've mentioned it before about how The. Mr and I do a lot of land travel and I think our trip information could be helpful to other people.

  • I usually make resolutions and they always get broken, so I'm not doing that this year.  I do have some goals but they really started last year so I'll just be continuing them:

-Last spring I set a goal of losing 22 lbs. before the wedding. Well, I lost 12 so I have 10 more to go to get back to my pre-stressful-job weight.

-One of resolutions last year was to get a new job that I liked. Again, I've made it halfway there. I quit my dreaded job, now just looking for another one.

-Work towards starting my own business.

-Make my husband and our families a priority. He's really bad about remembering birthdays, so now that I'm officially in his family I'll be making sure his relatives get their bday cards on time.

-Get the house straightened up and keep it that way. We're really bad about "trashing" it within a couple days!

-Pay off our CC debt and save for a house.

  • I didnt make a new years resolution this year because I know that I Would break it. But I do want to lose weight this yr so that I am at a healthier weight when we decide to go for baby #2. But so far I have gained more weight due to the stress that I am going through with my uncle being in hospice. Our major goal this year is to pay off our credit card debt that we have so that we can get a boat.

Hopefully this year we can get a boat, but they may wait until next year. I am really hoping that hubby want to try for #2 in October.

  • 1) My resolutions are (of course) to get healthier and try to loose some weight.

    2) I am trying to read the Bible all the way through in a year. It's something that I've never done but always wanted to.

    3) H & I are trying to improve our relationships...with God, family, friends and each other.

I hope that this year is a fairly low-key year. My SIL is having a baby in May. My best friends and MOH is getting married at the end of the year. I'm in the process of getting my Master's and hope to have it by the end of 2010. Now that I've put it on the screen...seems like a lot. lol
