Rubella Testing

Has anyone ever had rubella testing?  The fertility doctor check my rubella during a blood test.  He said I need a rubella vaccination booster.  I guess women in their 20's & 30's might need booster shots.  Has anyone ever had a booster or had their doctor say they might need one?

When I talked to my mom about this she said it's very common.

Re: Rubella Testing

  • Umm...I know when I was younger I got the MMR shot. I got booster shots as kids, but not sure what those were for really. As far as I know, no I have not had any Rubella shot or testing.
  • Well same thing with me-- I ended up with my first son not being immune to it even after getting the MMR when younger. I had to get an MMR before leaving the hospital

I guess it wasn't checked this pregnancy but when I got hired on at my new job (hospital system) they did a titer and and found I wasn't immune to it again. So I am getting another round of the MMR-- very weird!

I talked with the nurse about it today.  She said it's common for women in their 20's/30's to need another MMR.  I thought it was weird too.

  • I guess it's probably possible to need a new one. Strange. I'd research it just for your own sanity. Maybe WebMD has some info on it?
  • They tested me for it when we started talking about TTC...mine was high enough...but I've heard of lots of other women needing a booster for vaccinations. Good you are getting it done now ;)
