Swine Flu

I know the craziness has settled quite a bit about this particularly notorious strain of the flu, but I'm getting the vaccine tomorrow.  Better safe than sorry since I'm going out of the country next week!

Re: Swine Flu

  • I'm going tomorrow too.  I'm going to my DR. but I hear Walgreens is administering it too.

  • I got mine a couple weeks ago, just in case! I asked my dr about it- like do I really need it, what do you recommend doing, etc. She thought it was a good idea. I passed on the regular flu shot though. I don't usually get it and I discussed that with the dr as well and she was more concerned with me getting the h1n1 shot.
  • neither mH nor I are getting it. DS got it but Friday I am going to ask if theya re starting to do the second booster shots yet. Hopefully with DS resp history they will give it to him.

At this point, I'm not getting any flu shots (I work at Umass Med School, but not in the hospital, so I hear what's going on, and it doesn't seem to be bad around here... yet), but I heard that the H1N1 vaccine includes the normal seasonal flu, so I think you're basically getting both with that. Which is handy.

  • Good...I'm getting mine tomorrow even though I had the flu back in June, in case it has mutated.  I got on the last day of school and was sick for a week and weak for weeks, and one of my team teachers is out with a flu of some sort this week (the first week back from our break).  So glad it is finally available.

  • I got mine back in October, because my doctor said the benefits far outweigh any risks. I think it's great you're getting it!  You do NOT want the swine flu, especially while you're pregnant.  Good luck with your trip!
