Anyone flown out of Dayton in the last week or so?

Has there been long lines to get through security? I'm flying for the first time the end of this month, and I'm somewhat nervous. I haven't been to an airport since I was in high school, so I have no idea what to even expect. I know about the liquids rule, but other than that. I'm totally clueless. It'll take me an hour to get to the airport. My flight leaves at 6am. How early should I get there? Sorry I'm so full of questions. This is my first time flying and I'm flying by myself so I'm trying to get as much figured out beforehand to try to calm myself down. Thanks ladies1

  • I have not flown out of dayton in about a year but that is our normal airport because it is right by my parents house. Not sure if you have ever flown out of there before but it is VERY easy to navigate and is usually not very busy. It is really small so my guess is unless there is some sort of crazy emergency you will have no problem at all.  Since your flight is at 6am you are probably the first flight of the day so there shouldnot be any backup at all.  Someone who has flown recently may have different experiences but everytime I have been there it has been smooth. Have fun on your trip!

  • I would call and see what times the ticket counters and security open. I havent flown out of Dayton in a while, but i travel through CVG for work frequently and I usually take those 6am flights. I know that the ticket counters dont open 2 hours early at that time, I think security opens at 5am so people are ususally waiting. I know they are pretty helpful when you call, so hopefully that will help. I do know Dayton is a lot easier than CVG to navigate and you can typically get to your gate quicker than other airports. If you know the liquids rule, you should be fine.
  • Is it the weekend or a weekday?  My only concern is the traffic through downtown.  It can be very heavy during rush hour but your flight is so early that you should miss the traffic.  Security is not bad.  My advice is to have your licence out, keep that and your ticket with you, and wear shoes that are easy to get off.  You'll be standing there in your socks while you get through security.  If you beep they'll wand you and they randomly pick people to wand.  I've had weird things beep, like a barette and my underwire bra so don't think that getting pulled aside is something terrible.  The TSA people in Dayton don't seem to be super strict but they have absolutly no sense of humor so they won't act nice or friendly.  I don't think you need to get there any more than an hour early.  Maybe leave home 2.5-3 hours earlier than your flight so you have a little extra time for traffic.

  • Just an FYI, but they are doing or just getting ready to start construction at the Dayton airport.  I haven't actually been up there,t hough, so I do not know what impact, if any, it may have.  I would just plan a little extra time in case there isn't as much room to park, longer walks, confused employees, etc.
