So now that the year is over and awards season is upon us, what were some of your favorite movies, performances, etc for movies in 2009? I need to know what to look forward to renting!
Re: Best Movies of 2009
The Hangover was great.
I also LOVED Nine and Sherlock Holmes, but those are still in theaters.
I like Sherlock Holmes and wanted to see Nine but heard it wasn't great. But if you say it's good, I might be willing
Seriously? You heard Nine wasn't good? Wow, that surprises me. I know there are a lot of Rob Marshall haters out there though.
To me, it was freaking fantastic. It was an absolutely GORGEOUS movie! Daniel Day-Lewis is probably the most talented actor there is right now. Kate Hudson was terrific, Penelope Cruz (who I don't like) was amazing, Fergie was PERFECT and Marion Cottilard was insane.
Each star got their one solo performance (Marion had 2 though) and there weren't any ensemble cast performances. There was a definite plot and I thought the musical was interspersed nicely with the movie. I loved it!

I Love You Man
Zombieland
UP
The Hurt Locker
Inglorious Basterds
I didn't see many movies this year.
But I did see The Hangover twice.

I was so excited for Paper Heart... and then never heard anything else about it. I don't think it was ever released here. (Michael Cera, right?)
Up was great... I also really liked The September Issue.
I want to see Nine! I might have to see that one by myself

I watch very few movies but liked the Hangover. The Proposal was better than expected if you're in the mood for a chick flick. We want to see the Blind Side but haven't made it into the theater.
I was really curious about Nine because with all of the big names, you'd think it would be good but I heard bad things as well. Although the comments were from critics not real people so it could still be good...
I am the odd one here, since I always LOVE movies like the hangover, but honestly, I didn't think it was that funny. If anything, I thought the credits were 100x funnier than the entire movie.
I guess I didn't like it since the events that took place have zero chance in real life of happening. Who the hell goes to Vegas the night before their wedding? NO ONE! Unless your wedding is in fact, in Vegas.
I didn't see a single movie in the theater in 2009. If Taken came out in 2009, I liked that movie a lot.

Oh yeah, Taken was excellent. Loved that one. Also liked The Proposal and the Ugly Truth.
I've heard that the Blind Side is fantastic. I saw Nine alone too while my H watched the kids;)

I'm with Shag. I found the Hangover to really disappoint. The credits are the funniest part, and I was actually really insulted with all the racist stereotyping.
Yes, Paper Heart was the one with Michael Cera and Charlene Yi. They were fantastic! I had see (500) Days of Summer the week before and was sure that was my favorite movie of 2009, then saw Paper Heart and just loved it.
I was surprised at how much I like The Blind Side. I don't much care for football or Sandra Bullock but it was very good, if a little schmaltzy.
Up was good, but maybe not as magically transcendent as people would have you believe. Away We Go was cuter that I thought it would be and actually pretty funny (and the soundtrack was awesome).
Recently I was disappointed by Invictus (more focus on rugby than the interesting lives of the characters and the political strife of the time) and Up in the Air (trying too hard to be nontraditional with the ending, just left me very unsatisfied, though I did think George Clooney was great).
My biggest regret was not seeing Julie and Julia, as I like Julie Powell's book and LOVED My Life In France.
