The White Death!

Ok I must have been hiding under a rock somewhere because I didn't even know we were supposed to get snow tomorrow until DH said something to me about his work already having a meeting telling them if they feel it's unsafe they can call in and won't receive points for doing so! WTH, I wish my company was like a school and let us do things like this. I'm glad he mentioned something though because I will make sure I stay as far away from any grocery store as possible.

I must start watching the news so I am not out in the dark any more. I love the snow! I am so excited about getting some measurable snow for the first time this year!!

Re: The White Death!

  • Hahaha I have been waiting for someone to post about the White Death all day. I was just coming back on here to see if anyone had or else I was going to post.

I've been watching the weather closely this week since I had heard on Monday that we may get a big storm on Thursday. I'm now trying to figure out what the heck I'm going to do tomorrow. From what I heard the morning commute is going to be just a little bit snowy but the evening commute is going to be a nightmare with several inches on the ground. I had a 4 hour commute last winter, and I definitely don't want to do that again!

I'm super jealous of your husbands company, mine expects you to come in no matter what.

  • We've been discussing options here all morning...luckily my work is very flexible and I can leave early/work from home if I want. I think I'll come in early and leave around lunch time.

DH has already arranged to work from home--he doesn't want to do the Mason-to-Downtown commute in the snow with the crazy drivers.

ETA last year when snow hit in the afternoon, it took some of my coworkers 4+ hours to get home...my manager ended up staying at a hotel down the road rather than make the trip home.

  • I'm really excited for the snow!  I know I'm probably the minority but I wasn't born in Cincy and where I was we get feet of snow at a time every winter.  I miss it.  I know it took me a long time to get home last year when we had that snow, so I'm not looking forward to that.  I'm also way jealous of those of you that can leave early and/or work from home.  My boss also expects us all to be here all day no matter what.
  • I started laughing when i saw you had posted this! My DH and i were talking about it this morning. I asked him to get some salt for the drive way (our driveway goes up and it is all ice...not a lot of fun to try to get up) and some sand bags for the back of my truck. I am going to make sure to have everything is my truck i will need just in case for tomorrow because my work as well expects us to be there. Even last year when we were in the level 3 i think it was when we were not allowed to be driving, we were open and they expected us to get there and on time. Lucky that i was sick and did not have to go in :) I did not even know that on monday we were going to get that much snow and i had to coach my swim team. We are out by Mt. Healthy and i was headed to Milford and I never made it there! I left my house by 6pm so i could be at work by 7 and at 7:30 and was maybe a mile past the i-71 intersection! They told me someone would cover and to go ahead and head back home. At least where I coach they were rather have us be safe...by at my other job they expect us to be there. I am looking forward to playing in all the snow though. Big Smile
  • The White Death, ha ha.

DH works at Kroger, so I'm sure they will be slammed tonight with everyone stockpiling for the storm. Luckily he is off tomorrow, so we can hang out with the pups and enjoy the snow. Big Smile

  • I can't decide if I am going to work tomorrow or not. H said he would set me up in his office and i could remote in, which would be nice because I would have a printer. No matter what I will take work home with me. I am going to need to talk to my co-worker. She got into an accident the last time it snowed trying to get here on top. Maybe suggest a personal day since she can't really take any work home.
  • The White Death better come!  I am planning on sitting around in my pj's all day, cuddling with the dogs, and watching daytime TLC!!

  • This is one of those times when I'm glad that I'm unemployed!  I had a couple of horrible commutes home from Mason last year so I am happy I don't have to deal with that.

However, tomorrow is my birthday and I really want to go out to dinner so I hope they get the roads cleared!

  • I am thankful I just live in Newport and work downtown. It would suck being in a car that long. i am supposed to go to Anderson tomorrow after work and will not be making that trip if its bad out. I love the snow but driving in it sucks butt
  • my husband works up by the base and we live in fairfield. i am hoping he will work from home tomorrow but who knows. this amount of snow isn't that much to us bc we lived in IL last winter.
  • I am very excited for some real snow that I can get out and take photos of.  My outdoor pics have been so blah lately.  My arse WILL be at work, no snow days for us...unless a miracle level 3 emergency happens.  Yeah, right...  People show up for surgery, on time, in a foot of snow.  Surgeons and other staff are usually late getting in.  It is nuts how that works out.  It looks like the commute home is going to be a fun one.  I am just praying that it doesn't take me 4 hours like the commute from hell did last year.  Mental note....pee before getting in the car this time.

  • I was at Kroger tonight for groceries...didn't even cross my mind that people would be there stockpiling and pretty much all the shelves were empty!  It was nuts!!!  There was absolutely NO ground beef left anywhere, even the giant tubes were gone, i thought it was hilarious :)
