I just got laid off and i can't stop smiling!!

Don't get me wrong, being laid off sucks and you never want it to happen to you and i did get a bit emotional...

*BUT*... i didn't want to be there anyways!! I'd been contemplating my next move and kept thinking that if they wanted to lay me off, go right ahead.

I really had no idea it was happening until this morning. Even though my work friend says she didn't know, she was acting weird this morning and she had told me a while back that quite a few lay offs were happening today (her boss is a higher-up). So i kind of put 2 and 2 together. Then i got an email at 12:30 giving me 30mins notice for a 'discussion' with my boss's boss. Tongue Tied And then it happened. Like i said, i got a bit teary, but this is kind of what i wanted! I got a pretty decent severance so i have a while to figure things out.

I can't stop smiling cuz i have so many ideas on what i want to do with my days now!! This job never defined me and moving up wasn't exactly what i wanted to do. I am curious about what they're going to do with all the projects i did for the purchasing dept...hm...cuz i wasn't just sitting there everyday waiting for my phone to ring! I wonder how that's going to play out...Wink

  • I bet that feels really free-ing.  How often in life do those hard decisions (leaving a safe job) get made for us?  The fates stepped in for you :)  Good luck!

  • I went through similar last summer. I had unhappily been employed by a Healthcare Communications Company in the Vill and our new President let me go. I was a little offended but I honestly said "omg, thank you thank you!"

Unfortunately, I've been unemployed ever since (and not for lack of trying).

    Enjoy some YOU time :)
