Restaurant Recs in Asheville

Hi!

I'm fairly new to the area and to this board (posted a few times only) and was hoping for some restaurant recs in Asheville.  I'm surprising my bf with a weekend away for his 30th bday.  Planning on hitting up some breweries (any must do's?) Sat. during the day, grabbing lunch (any rec's other than the Asheville Brewing Co?).  Then would like to do a nicer dinner out (have been recommended the Sunset Terrace at Grove Park Inn, but not sure if I'd rather stay in the downtown area...also read about Red Stag Grille and the Lobster Trap - we moved here from RI, so we love lobster).  Then will be spending the day at the Biltmore on Sunday.  Any recommendations would be awesome and very much appreciated to this fairly new NC-resident!

Re: Restaurant Recs in Asheville

  • I love the Grove Park! Make sure you build in enough time to walk around and see the place.

I don't have a good rec for a nice dinner, but I love Mayfel's downtown for Sunday brunch. http://www.mayfels.net/

  • The Corner Kitchen at the Biltmore Village is great. Just be sure to make reservations since they do book up fast.
  • It's been forever (almost 12 years) since DH and I were there but we ate at the Flying Frog and it was delish!

    ditto this!

  • We go to Asheville all the time, it's a great weekend trip.  Tupelo Honey Cafe is great!  Although they're not really restaurants, you might want to make time to go the French broad Chocolate Lounge for a yummy dessert or the Thirsty Monk if you like great beer (it's two stories, bottom are from European breweries and top are American).  All of these places are downtown.

It's a couple exits past downtown from Charlotte but there's also a place called the Bavarian Restaurant & Biergarten.  It's a little pricey, but they have great German food.

  • Doc Chey's is delicious-- not a super nice meal, but a nice date out.  It's downtown.  Ichiban is in Biltmore Village, and it's great-- there's a lot of other great restaurants in Biltmore Village (area right around the Biltmore House).  I haven't been to the Flying Frog, but everyone says it's awesome.

  • Thank you all so much for the suggestions!
  • We only went for brunch, but Rezaz was great

At Biltmore we have had good meals at the Bistro, Deerpark Restaurant and the Stable Cafe.

     Have fun!

  • I also recommend Tupelo Honey.  And we had dinner at the Lobster Trap after we got engaged, so of course I recommend it!
  • I live in Asheville and all the previous recommendations sound great so far. In terms of grabbing a local beer, you are coming to the right place, in Asheville there are 13 different micro breweries, we came in second place for greatest micro brewery city (after Seattle). I am a bit biased but the Wedge is a great local tasting room it is in the river arts district. Jack of the wood which is down town is also great. Those are two of our favorites.

Early Girl is great for breakfast as well on Sunday morning. If you like Mexican Chorizo in the Grove Arcade downtown is great, they have FABULOUS mojitos. There are a bunch of great places to eat in the Grove Arcade. If I can help in any way let me know, Asheville is GREAT!

  • We enjoyed Zambra, a tapas-style place. Hope you have a great time!
  • I second the flying frog!  I went to UNCA- grew up near Asheville- and it was DH and my favorite special night out place!  The Dijon filet is soooo good.  Early Girl Eatery would be good for breakfast or lunch as well.  Have fun!
