My level of insanity (LONG)

knows no bounds, apparently.

We went and saw the duplex I had such high hopes for.. the area was FANTASTIC.  The duplex... not as much.  I'm sure at one point, it would've been perfect, but it had seen it's fair share of really.harsh.renters.  The vinyl siding looked so dirty... and upon closer inspection, whatever is splattered all over it is like pitted into the vinyl.  Can't power-wash that off. Tongue Tied

Also, it was an eat-in kitchen.  As in the "dining room" was tiny and in the kitchen... I don't even know if our table would've fit in there (even if we went back to using our old round one!)  The living room was also pretty small.  Not sure we could've entertained much.

After arriving home after a very indecisive drive, we decided "We drove past this one place that looked a little worse for wear... WTH, let's go check it out."  Called the landlord for that place.  He lives next door... and can meet us there in like 45 minutes.

So we went.  It's in need of a little TLC and is probably only ~10 years newer than what we're living in now.  The flooring in the kitchen/dining room/hallway needs replacement (lovely 1979 vinyl); the carpet in the two bedrooms is different lovely shades of orange.

However, the house itself is nice... great layout, a better designed kitchen (in need of newer appliances), central air, fenced in backyard, full basement, and better neighborhood.  Oh, and the landlord LOVED Xena, and is a builder by trade (he showed us parts of his half of the duplex... this man does INCREDIBLE work, and is planning on redoing the flooring.)  I asked that he do the carpeting before the vinyl because that I can live with, he agreed and we're planning on moving over the course of the next month or so.  Tongue Tied

Since then... I swear I haven't stopped wondering if we're TOTALLY insane, or if it's just temporary. LOL  I'm excited because with a few improvements, this place is definitely some place we can see ourselves living in for a few years and possibly starting a family.

  • I'm glad you found a place!  That's great.  Tell us more about it.  How big is it (especially compared to your current place)?  Does it have a garage?  Are you SURE you can't live with orange carpet (hahahah)....

Greg and I disagree on the space: I think it's possibly a little smaller in sq footage, but a better lay-out; he swears it's just more sq footage. LOL

It's a ranch style duplex with a 2-car garage (something we wouldn't compromise on).  I think maybe the different details attracted us: for instance, the garage has an arched top (so the top is rounded, while the door itself isn't).  Exiting the garage, the door into the home is at an angle.

Entering the house from the garage, you walk into the galley kitchen.  (The dining room is straight through the kitchen and the living room is to the right.  There are patio doors that lead to a patio he just expanded last summer, he said.)  If you go to the left when you enter instead of through the kitchen, you pass the door to the full basement (which is HUGE) before the master bedroom is in the left corner at the backside of the house.  The hallway runs parallel to the kitchen (from the master bedroom, past the one full bathroom, laundry, and to the the second bedroom.)

It has a mostly-fenced in yard (the corner of the lot has the telephone/electric boxes, but the landlord has offered to fence that portion if we need it.)  Also, C/A (hurray!!)

  • Moving is never really that fun so maybe that's adding to your insanity.  Glad you found a place.

Greg just did... he's pretty upset (which we expected) and said he was a little blindsided by it.

Uh... dude... HOW could you?  Pretty sure you knew we were tight on space... pretty sure you knew we wanted the bathroom fixed.. like 2 years ago when we FIRST said your initial cheap fix didn't work, or your second cheap fix didn't work, etc.

  • Paula, that is so exciting!!
  • Yay so excited for you guys, can't wait to see pics!
  • Yeah I'm so glad you found something you like! Good luck with the move!
