Well, New Years resolution was to quit; and it just so helped, that I got strep throat on New Years Day (Ironic, huh?)
So, I finished out my pack, last day being Sunday, (smoked two on Sunday). And I haven't smoked since.
Has the urge been there, yes. Today is day 4, and i'm still good, haven't smoked. I've read that it takes 3 days for the urge to go away, and then it's just a "habit" thing, that needs to be broken - any experience with this?
What should I expect in my days to come?
I've haven't been drinking either, mainly b/c I'm on an antibiotic; and I know that will probably be a differrnt story.
Re: Any Smokers?
good for you! i quit smoking four years ago - the day my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer (and he wasn't a smoker). watching him have part of his lung removed pretty much sealed the deal for me.
does your DH smoke? mind does not, so that made it a lot easier. he abhors smoke, so when we would go out drinking that helped me to not do it, since i knew he thought it was gross.
i slipped up a couple of times, but was disgusted at first puff. it's so gross to me now, i don't know how i ever did it.
I quit two and a half years ago. The key for me was never saying "I'm never going to smoke again" because I knew as soon as I'd said that I would immediately want a cigarette.
I set a short term goal--3 weeks (how long it takes to form a habit) and promised myself a gift I'd wanted (a ring) if I went 3 weeks without smoking once. I said I would re-evaluate after then. I ended up not even buying the ring, but the promise was there and I would ask myself "Do I want this ring or a cigarette?"
I never bought another pack. If I slipped up and bummed one, I moved on the next day. I have been absolutely smoke free for almost two years now and I can't imagine ever even wanting one again.
