Re: BU: New hairs!
Looks very nice, and polished! Do you flat iron?
I'm soooo looking for a new haircut, I've had long and layered for as long as I can remember, but I'm not sure I can do it.
I'm also in the same boat as you, I only get trims, and generally go to super cuts or whatever; I don't wanna pay $50 plus to get 1-2 inches off my long hair - not unless I was going to something drastic.
Thanks! The before pic is flat ironed -- today's pic is not, though it was just freshly blow-dryed. And yay for another chain salon patron! If I ever do go short, I will find someone steady. Too much can go wrong with a shorter cut!

I like it! And, at the risk of sounding like a snob, I will not go to a haircut chain. Besides the fact that this is Los Angeles and hair salons are a dime a dozen, I read an article once where two twins asked for the same haircut, one at a salon and one at a chain. They asked a third party which was which and she could totally tell. Put me off chains for life, I tell you.
But I do go to a cheap place. $30 for a haircut=not so bad to me.

Mames, just saw the picture...tbh, it looks nearly the same, but less full. Still looks good, but not too much change there.
You need to get bold and daring! Chop it off! Do it (well, when the extreme cold is gone). It grows back. Don't be scared.

It looks really nice, but I agree with Leigha -- go for it and try something different. It grows back.
I went to chain salons for years but after 3 bad haircuts in a row in college, I decided I was done for life. I now go to an aveda salon here that has different stylist levels. I've been going to the same stylist for about 3 years now and she's only gone up $5 in price and they don't allow tips so my haircuts are always $35.

Married
Stupid question...how do you find a non-chain salon/stylist?
I'm serious.
Here's my story: When I was little, I had this mangy rats nest of curls trying to pass itself off as hair. When I was five years old, my mom finally heard about a place called "Kids Kuts" that specialized in hair cuts for kids ages 9 and under. So she took me there and we met Mary. Mary cut my hair for three years and then moved to a regular full-service salon. Mary continued to cut mine and my mother's hair until I was 21 years old. That's 16 years. Then Mary quit and got her real estate license.
For the next two years, I just had my roommates cut my hair with a pair of kitchen scissors (yes, seriously). When we all moved apart, I started going to chain stores. That's all I've done for the past three years.
One of my items on my 101 in 1001 is "Have my hair cut and styled at a "real" salon," but I don't even have an idea how to find one. How do you know what a good price is? How do you know who a good stylist is? I'm so confused
SBS, I get recs from my friends who go to boutique places. I have a few people I could go to, but that involves appointments and more money, and I like being able to get my hair cut on a whim.
So... word of mouth is my answer.

Love it Mames! It such a nice feeling to have lighter hair, right? Looks really gorgeous and healthy and I love the color.
Thanks for the tip, Mames.
And I realized I forgot to start that post with "Wow, your hair looks nice! It doesn't look too different, but it does look healthy and shiny." But I'm an idiot and just said it out loud to my computer screen rather than typing it.
Haha, thanks ladies.
I think my hair must photograph better than what it is in real life. I damage the crap out of it! Plus I'm a 2x/day shampooer!! THE HORROR.
