I spoke to my doctor about the heat disenfecting method I used to use (like in 1990! lol) because it seemed more environmental than the solutions. Apparently its just not done anymore and not considered effective enough. He couldn't think of an alternative. Sooo... I guess I'm stuck with disenfecting solution.
Re: s/o contacts
What method did you use? Were they glass lenses? Why wouldn't heat work? I'm just curious.
Best sound ever: baby's heartbeat! (Heard @ 10w1d)
No, they were just regular soft lenses and there were these heat disenfecting gadgets. It was very common back then, and you really either used that or the chemical way which meant you couldn't put your contacts in for 8 hours or so. You just put them in their case, and then put the case in the little heat thing, plugged it in and the light went off when they were done.
They just don't really make them anymore and supposedly its not a great way to disenfect.
If you used the heat thing, didn't you still need solution to wash off the debris?
Oh... saline, yes (and you put them in saline), so I guess its the same amount of plastic. I don't know where the cleaning solutions fall as far as being EF.
So far, I think making contacts EF is tough.
I know what thingy you're talking about! My mom used to have one and it was pink. I tried finding a picture online but didn't have any luck. However, I did find out that it may have been called an aseptor.
And while they don't make those anymore, I did come across this newer version that uses UV for disinfecting and ultrasonic type things for cleaning. I'm not sure how it would be an improvement over using newer contact solutions, though, because it looks like you have to use their particular solution.
