3 Days. 60 Miles. 1 Lifetime.

I'm so excited :)

I just got my official Welcome Letter and starting materials for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure. My friend and I are walking together as a team this November (November 19-21, San Diego).

I've set my initial fundraising goal at $3,000 but I really hope to raise more.

If you're interested in following me on my training/fundraising journey, or if you're interested in donating, I've got a link in my signature to my blog all about the 3-Day.

This is my first time participating. My mom has walked twice before, and said it's an absolutely amazing experience. Personally, I've known way too many women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. In fact, the first time I remember really dealing with "death" was when my favorite cousin and I were just four years old and his mother died of breast cancer. At four years old, I didn't understand how his mom could die -- moms weren't supposed to do that. Since then, I've had other relatives diagnosed. I'm walking, particularly, in honor and support of three survivors -- my grandmother Bev, my cousin Lisa, and my friend Brenda.

So please, check out my blog. It's a very important cause, and a VERY big challenge for me this year. :)

  • This is awesome. They don't have this in Louisville, but I'm considering going to Chicago to participate. I can't wait to follow you on your blog!

I handle all the PR and Advertising for a local event here in Louisville called Hats for Hope (www.hatsforhopeauction.com), and it's a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. It's a silent auction of Derby hats and packages like vacations and whatnot with wine and cocktails, food, etc. Last year we were able to raise over $60,000!

I commend you for doing this and I plan to donate!

  • I will be following for sure and will donate, as well. I plan on doing the Charlotte walk in a couple years!

I can't wait to follow your journey. Congrats and best of luck!

  • Congratulations on doing this... I wish we had it in Louisville.  One of my college roomie's has done this the past 2 years and said it was a great experience.  Its such a great cause and wonderful event.
  • Yay SBS!! This is a great cause, I'm so proud to know you :) The SGK Foundation is wonderful, and truly, every dime helps.  I hope you raise a gazillion dollars for the cure!!
I'm friends with everybody in this office. We're all best friends - I love everybody here. But sometimes your best friends start coming into work late, and start having dentist appointments that aren't dentist appointments. And that's when it is nice to let them know that you can beat them up.
  • Good luck and way to go! I'm on the race committee for my local SGK affiliate but we do the traditional 5k every November. Yay for you!
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Participating in events like this are truly lifechanging. I did a 48 hour dance marathon in college where you couldnt sit, sleep or stop and helped raise over $4million for childhood cancer. To this day, it was one of the best weekends of my life.
  • Good for you!  This has hit home way more than I would like lately.  My cousin-in-law (and one of my BMs) just finished her final round of chemo for breast cancer (about to start radiation) and she is only 40 yrs old.  Also, one of my friends from high school was just diagnosed over the holidays with breast cancer and is looking to undergo a double mastectomy and chemo...she is only 29.  It's amazing how widespread it is these days.

  • You go girl!

I have been wanting to participate in something like this.Such a great cause.
