What hill did you slide down last year. I work up in clifton and live on the westside. To get home/work I have to go down a big hill and then up a big hill. I hate it. I normally take straight st. Yesterday I started to cause it didn't look too bad and there was a car in front of me. I was going really slow and slid a hair and turned on ravine to take mcmillian down. That hill really scares me when the weather is bad, don't even know why I chanced it yesterday. I always picture sliding all the way down it.
Re: Christine.Louie
It actually wasn't a big one...it was W. Nixon (between Jefferson and Bishop near Adriatico's). Some residents were standing at the top of the hill on the side walk and wildly waving their arms and (I assume) screaming "noooo!" but I didn't see them until it was too late. Apparently every single car that went down slid which was surprising given it was not that steep and I was going super slow.
There are some absolutely rediculous hills in the Clifton area...definitely be careful and take a detour if you have to! The thing is, it's so darn hilly you just can't avoid them so you gotta pick the worst of the evils
.
BTW, I'm originally from the West Side too...you'd think w/ all the hills/curvy roads over there we'd be experts! Ebenezer hair pins and Rybolt road? Enough said

Jersey- OMG brakes going out on vine st. That had to of been really scary.
Christine- You would think we'd be experts lol. I think I'm some what of an expert on Westwood northern blvd especially at the bottom of the hill but it still scares me. I've seen way too many bad accidents.
Having lived in Clifton for 23 years, I agree that driving Clifton in winter stinks. I live on Riddle and last year I noticed that someone had the sense to close off the bottom of my street to keep people from trying to go up it, at least. And on an icy day, they closed it down in both directions beginning at Riddle Road Market. I once was out walking my dogs in the snow & had someone slide off the road and up into a front yard RIGHT AT ME! I had to dive out of the way - thankfully the dogs were a few feet in front of me and safe.
I also noticed they closed down the bottom of Ravine and Straight Streets a few times last year, so those going that way might want to take that into consideration.
I have noticed that they clear the routes to the hospitals first. So, it might be roundabout, but what I usually do is get to MLK (which is usually salted first since Good Sam & University are off of it). Take MLK down towards Central Pkwy (cut through White Castle since you can't make a left at that light) - and that at least gets you to flat ground safely, though Central is usually taken care of pretty decently. (Also, White Castle tends to take good care of their parking lot.)
