Feel like a freak

After months of being unhappy on Yaz, my doctor switched me to Nuvaring. All my friends RAVED about how awesome it was, just put it in and forget it for 3 weeks, no big deal.

Well, I started it Wednesday night and felt very nervous that it was going to fall out, not to mention it made my period bleeding worse (TMI, sorry). I had a snow day yesterday, and i had to readjust it about 4 times throughout the day, had some major panic attacks (so much so I had to take my "as needed" anxiety meds; haven't needed them in 3+ years) and I then proceeded to have, what I'm assuming, is an allergic reaction to the ring. My entire vag area was burning and sore...

so yeah, I feel like a freak, who's now not on BC for a month. Hello condoms!

Re: Feel like a freak

  • From someone who had huge issues with all hormonal BC it was a major set back for a while.  For a while we were using condoms as well, just recently had my hub go in for the big snip since I had so many issues.  I am thankful I dont have to go through that hell again though with BCP's, it was a nightmare.  I share your pain completely!  Take care.

  • i have never heard of an allergic reaction but it can be possible. I hope you have called your doctor to explain what is going on. Don't stop looking for BC that suits you though, there are many options. Good luck!

  • I would expect Yaz to make someone a crazy freak rather than the nuvaring (Yaz, Yasmine, Loestrin have all been known to make people have horrible mood swings...).

I personally loved the nuva ring when I was on it about 5 years ago. My periods were a little heavier and I cramped a little more, but it came like clockwork, and surprisingly shorter (maybe because I bled more in he begining???). I started having issues after a year, howeve, with recurrant yeast infections. I suspect that having the hormones in the vag was the problem. Synthetic hormones overall just create all kind of craziness in that area for me anyway...

  • I'm seriously toying with charting, as I have always had very regular cycles. I'm going to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility too. If I don't have to be on hormones, I don't want to be!

I have done this... works very well. www.fertilityfriend.com. It will tell you not to use it to TTA, but that is because they don't want  you to sue them should you get KU. Obviously you don't follow the information about timed sex if you aren't TTC.

  • It's quite intriguing... I just signed up on FF, so I'll give it a try...

  • Call your doctor!

    Something is not right.

  • I used NFP and fertility friend for about 6 cycles and really loved it. no hormones and you get really in touch with your body.

but I hate condoms (during the fertile times) and eventually decided to go to the Nuva Ring. I had really severe mood swings the first few months and as someone who has anxiety/ocd, I had some trouble with that too. from what I hear, its mostly just your body adjusting to the hormones. talk to your doctor about your concerns for sure.
