Nerve racking experience

As you may or may not remember I went to the GYNO before Christmas to check on pain I was having in my left breast.  He didn't think it was anything but told me to have a sonogram just in case.  Yesterday I went to have the sonogram done.  Now for those of you who don't want to read the whole post let me just say that my girls are fine and the doctor thinks the pain is hormonal.  That being said, what a nerve racking experience it was to get the results!

I went in and had to fill out the forms, blah blah blah... Got back and put the gown on and then wait.  So the nurse comes in and get me for the sonogram.  We go back to the room, she does the exam and says she doesn't see anything abnormal but has to show the doctor.  She gives me a towel, tells me to wipe myself off and goes and talks to the doc.  Nurse comes back and says the doctor wants me to get a mammogram as long as I'm not preggo.  Tell her I'm not and now I go wait in another room.  Different nurse comes in and gets my for the mammogram.  Go back have my left breast smushed 2 different ways and then sent back out to wait while the nurse show the doctor.  Nurse comes back and says the doctor wants one more picture.  So go get breast smushed again and then go wait again.

And now I'm getting nervous because, even though the first nurse said it looked normal, I'm wondering why the doc wanted a mammogram and why the extra picture after the first two.  I'm trying to stay calm and read my magazine but my brain is racing and I'm really wishing DH was with me.  The nurse comes in and moves me to the room where the doctor goes over your results.  This tiny room with 3 chairs, boxes of tissues, and information about dealing with breast cancer EVERYWHERE!  I about lost it!  Fortunately, as I said earlier, it was nothing and the doctor said everything looks normal but OMG!  My nerves where so shot!

Re: Nerve racking experience

  • I would have had a panic attack! But, whew, at least eceryhting is ok!
  • I'm sorry you had to deal with this but glad everything is ok!  I hate when doctors/nurses don't tell you what is going on and make you wait on the news it can be very nerve racking.

  • I wouldnt have made it out alive.  Or someone else wouldnt have.  WOW!  I'm SOOOO glad that it was nothing serious!

Do you drink caffeine?  My dr told me to not drink it because it was causing my breasts to be super painful.

  • Oh, that is really scarey. And a little mean of the doctors and nurses! It's a nerve wracking experience to begin with, they should know that! I have really cystic breast so everytime I get an exam at the gyno, she always takes a really long time checking everything out. Everytime she pauses in one place, my stomach twists.
  • OMG you poor thing, I would have lost it being put in a room full of breast cancer stuff after coming in to have my boobs checked! Gah couldnt he have just given you the results in the examining room!

So glad your girls are good :)

I do drink caffeine and the doc told me that same thing.  I'm trying to cut back and just do a cup of coffee in the morning but it's really hard!  Did you cut out the caffeine?
