Thoughts on Dallas...possibly moving there
Hello everyone!
My DH and I are thinking of relocating to Dallas! I am originally from Ohio, but am living in Calgary now.
Just a few questions for everyone. How is the manufacturing economy in Dallas. My DH is a certified machinist and is wondering if it will be very difficult to find work. I'm a stay at home mom.
Also what do you like about Dallas? We are sick of the freezing cold weather in Calgary and want to be somewhere warmer. Plus the housing prices look very reasonable too!
Thanks!

I recommend you husband check with Lockheed Martin in west Fort Worth. They will be building a lot of jets for the next 20 years. Also, there's a GM plant in Grand Prairie, but that would be a little scary given GM's current financial situation. Bell Helicopter also has work here, but I'm not sure what type.
DFW is a huge metroplex with about 5 million people. Expand any searches for jobs in Dallas to anything within 50 miles of Dallas and you may come up with more options. Houses are nicely priced, but we do pay 2-3% in property per year and have an 8-8.5% sales tax (but no income tax). I think you'll like the warm weather. It just takes a couple summers to get used to the constant 90 degrees. What might bother you is allergies (just watch out for them).
Good luck!
