HGTV - house hunters int'l

I love this show!

It is interesting to see homes around the world, but it is kind of fun to dream.  They just had a couple buying a home in Thailand, and I really like the episodes with the tropical settings.  Interesting to see what those homes are like, as well as how much they cost.  Or to imagine doing that some day!

Anyone else watch it?  It's been a part of my late nights with the baby :)

Re: HGTV - house hunters int'l

  • I saw one a couple of weeks ago of a guy buying a place in Tokyo.  Suuuuper expensive for 1970's decorated closet-sized apartments!  The poor guy couldn't even stand in his shower, and the kitchen was basically a hot plate with a sink.  I think he ended up with a decent place, though, which was nice.

I like looking at all the exotic places, but I don't know that I could handle living overseas for any length of time - I am too used to my Americanized house!

  • I watch it sometimes.. The people who are buying "vacation homes" or just up and moving to some tropical locale always amaze me.. how DO they get that kind of money?

I get annoyed by house hunters a lot though.. It all seems so forced.. (cuz it is) and really how many times CAN they say, "this bedroom is really small" (apparently every bedroom is too small) or "This kitchen/bathroom is pretty outdated."

  • I love watching it. I can not even imagine the lifestyle some of these people must have! They're buying their 2nd property for like a million dollars but just can't choose b/c they didn't like a color in one of the 6 bathrooms or the appliances in the massive kitchen don't all match. Lucky ducks.

  • I'm addicted to HH in general, and love the international ones too- I usually watch when I'm folding laundry or something.

  • DH and I actually DVR it and have to delete half of them since we've seen them already.  It does amaze you the little differences in foreign countries that seem so natural to them.  Having a washer and dryer in the kitchen seems SO odd to me, but in Europe it's commonplace.  It does sometimes seem forced and scripted but I just find it interesting seeing how other people live.

Oh to have the money to buy some of these places....

  • I saw the one last night with Thailand.  I love the place they chose.  It's amazing how much money people have though.  I can only dream!!!
  • I love House Hunters, and I especially love House Hunters International.  I like International better because it's so much more interesting than a majority of the US episodes.  When someone goes to 3 almost identical new homes in the Atlanta suburbs, it's not nearly as exciting.

It's actually pretty common in many cities in the US where apartments/townhomes are small and waterlines are all close together. We've viewed many houses in the DC area that have this.
