Implanon - have you tried it?
I would like some input on this. I have been on different BCP's, and they all mess with me. I cant have an IUD because there are issues with my cervix. This or the depo shot are my options. Ive heard alot of bad stuff about the depo; bone density loss, weight gain. Implanon seems like my best bet. What do you think?
Re: Implanon - have you tried it?
I did not know that! I think it said they recommend you take a bone density test after two years of usage tho. Not sure on that though. We are almost positive we want one more, so we would like to keep that door open. Implanon lasts for 3 years. Im just worried because i had a lot of side effects with the pills i was on (Seasonique, Ortho Tri Cyclen) But it is a completely different hormone used. I guess you never really know how your body will react until you try it. I was just hoping some girls on here had experience with implanon, or the shot, and could give me some insight.
I have heard it would be painful, yes. But i think for 3 years not having to worry about it, it would be okay. Im not squeamish, and i don't think a tiny scar would matter that much to me. They say you can sometimes feel it though, if its out of place in your arm. Weird! Idk.
Okay. So no side effects other than the spotting? Doesn't sound too bad.
I had my Implanon put in June 9th, 2009. It wasn't too bad (insertion) my arm was bruised for like 3 weeks, and now, 7 months later, my scar is barely visible. I have had no side effects, and it has been wonderful.
As of dec. 26th, I had not gotten my period AT ALL since insertion. But since that point, it's been hanging around still. Not crazy bad or anything, just very light. (sorry if that's TMI)
All I can say is that I LOVE IT, best thing i've done medically for myself (well it's tied between that and LASIK) but you get the point.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
I have had one since November 2008. The insertion process wasn't bad. I have not had a real period since then, however I go in cycles of spotting. It was about every 4 months that it would occur for a few days. But the past 2 weeks I have been spotting almost every day. I have gained about 30 lbs since the insertion. Working nights and lack of sleep has done most of that, but I am not convinced it hasnt played a part. I am having a very difficult time losing the weight so I would like to have it removed to see if it helps.
I would like to go for a permanant option, but have heard that it is hard to find a doctor to perform those procedures when you don't have children. Researching paraguard in the meantime...If the spotting keeps up I will be figuring out something sooner rather than later.
I as well have had implanon for two years. The procedure was the easiest thing ive ever done. I have hardly any scar. My arm was really bruised for a week but after that it was fine. I didnt have a cycle for about 7 months and then I got one and still have one once a month. No spotting, no weight gain, no moodiness or any HEADACHES!!!! I used to get them all the time. I was on OCP's before and my head would hurt everyday. I would recomend implanon to everyone who isnt planning on having kids for a while. Implanon has a really cool website with some videos if you want more info. I cant remember it but just search it on the web.
