I hope I don't sound completely ignorant and naive with this post but I'm going to write it.
Today when I was driving home from work (on a rural highway) I notice that the van next to me had it's interior lights on and the passenger was signing to the driver. I had never seen that before and frankly it didn't look very safe. The driver was signing back and not driving the straightest at that.
Now, please no flames, I do not know anyone that is deaf. I know hard of hearing people and I had never thought about how people that are deaf communicate when in a car or a situation like that. Can anyone give me insight into this world?
Re: Had never contemplated this before
I knew a girl in college who was deaf. She was more of a friend of a friend. I didn't really know too many signs to communicate with her but other friends did. I don't remember if she had her license or not. It doesn't seem too safe but probably not that different from the other things that people do in cars!
The funny (maybe not the right word) thing about this girl was that she was the best dancer! She couldn't hear the music at a bar but she could feel it. Guys were always trying to hit on her and her friends would have to explain to them she couldn't hear them. I think more than one guy thought they were lying!
