Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo

Anyone on this birth control? I just switched from Loestrin 24 Fe to this because of spotting and irregular periods. Hopefully this will help!

Re: Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo

  • I was on it and loved it, didn't seem to have too many PMS like symptoms (ie mood swings) on it and I think the lower hormone dose had something to do with it, it did take me two packs to get my breakthrough bleeding on it though, probably due to the lower hormones

  • I'm on this, I started on diane 35 and when I switched doctors she was like "why the heck are you on this!" and she changed me to tri-cyclen Lo

I like it, never had a problem with it, never had any bad side effects. It helps with my acne and my headaches...and no babies so far! :)

  • Only BC I've ever been on, but no problems and no babies!
  • My gyno office they are no longer manufacturing OTC-Lo.... There is a generic version of it called Tri-Lo-Sprintec. I know most people feel that the generic is just as good as the name brand; however, sometimes  you can start to have side effects due to certain fillers that are in the generic that may not be in the name brand. Some pharmacies may still have OTC-Lo, but there won't be anymore manufactured from what I heard.
  • was on it. loved it. didn't have any side effects from it.
  • Was on it for a year, and LOVED it. Now I am on just regular dose Ortho-tri-cylen, and it works just as well:) No side effects.
  • I didn't think they stopped making the brand name when the generic became available.  My gyn just gave me a new script for OTC lo.

    nothing
  • I was on it for 4 years and had no problems.

I was given the script for it, but I was also told by the dr. and the nurse that it wasn't being made so that there was a high probability that I could either be given whatever they had left over or the generic. I would think that there is good deal amount of the Rx left since it is something that is widely prescribed. I don't know where my dr's office got this information, but they are usually pretty informed about what's going on with that area.

  • When I first started taking BCP I doc started me on this. It was fine until 3 years later my body wasn't taking it so well. My periods got heavier, and they were already heavy enough, and cramping increase a lot. I even started throwing up because of it. And no I was not pregnant.?
  • This bcp seriously messed up my body. I didn't react well to it, and 4 of my other friends didn't either. I was on it for about 5 months. It made me gain tons of weight, nauseous all the time, and I had major mood swings all the time. As soon as I got off of it, I felt better. Yasmin is the only pill I can take though, I tried about 6 others. My friend that took ortho tri cyclen lo was also nauseous all the time and threw up once a day from it. Some people just have to find the right bc for them, and this one was not for me. GL

  • It made me nauseus the first day every cycle.
  • I loved my Ortho Tri Lo while I was on it. Minor side effects (a little weight gain, but nothing major). It did wonders for my acne!

I also had a smooth transition off of it too, my cycle stayed right about the same. Yes

  • I'm currently on OTC-Lo. I love the brand version, had a few problems with the generic version Tri-Lo Sprintec.

Currently all you can get is the name brand because the manufacturer of Tri-Lo (the generic form) is being sued because they were not allowed to release the generic form until 2015 due to patents.

I'm happy about this because I truly felt there was a difference and when there was a generic available my insurance would not pay for brand. Now there is no generic available more money but well worth the cost. IMO

  • I never liked it.  Being overweight probably didn't help me, but I had horrible periods.  Mood swings like crazy, heavy bleeding, cramps galore (usually for 2 weeks, as in the week before and the week of) and breast tenderness.  I was switched to trivora and I have had no problems with it.
  • I was on it for about two years and am now on the generic version, both worked fine and I actually like the generic a little better, My periods are lighter and shorter on the generic
  • I have been on this for almost a year now.  I have noticed a considerable decrease in PMS issues!  I still have my moments of emotionalness but it has helped those moments be much shorter.  It has also greatly reduced the cramping.  Warning though, you might have MAJOR sex urges the week of your period!
