Another canning question - where to buy jars?
Just curious where the canners here are buying their jars and what a good price on them would be. I've been browsing a bit online and it's hard to comparison shop with the shipping prices and whatnot.
Thanks!
Re: Another canning question - where to buy jars?
Is there a particular brand you're looking for? I think there was a post about BPA in the Ball jar lids recently. So annoying.
But my jars are Ball. I purchased them from the hardware store.
I want to order these (they are the glass lid BPA free ones)

I bought mine at Walmat. Thrift stores have them sometimes. Amazon also carries them:

What size you want varies by what you plan to can. For a household of 2, I'd probably do most of it in pint jars, jam in 1 cup jars. Pickles I just do in recycled anything jars (pickle, pasta sauce, etc.), as the vinegar means it's nearly impossible for anything to go wrong.
Mine are from garage sales and thrift stores, but i see you don't have a car... the weck ones are cool. too bad they aren't made to fit on existing jars. That would make them super cool.
Best sound ever: baby's heartbeat! (Heard @ 10w1d)
Thanks for the tips!
I'm less worried about the lids having BPA in them, because it's not like the canned stuff should really touch the lid, right?
I may go for the Amazon option. I'm thinking of testing out Amazon Prime shipping, so perhaps I'll just order a bunch that way.
FYI My grocery store only carries them during "canning" season. I was looking for some a couple of weeks ago (knowing that I had seen them there before) and that's what the staff told me.
I would go with Amazon.
